Timothy Dalton

His two films were good, but the box-office showed that the public didn't want a serious novel based Bond, they want guns, gals & gadgets. (It's to do with age maybe, like who is the best Doctor, but Rodge is the best ) :)

I've heard that too about Timothy Dalton-I love him as Bond, 'Licence To Kill' is unfashionably one of my absolute favourites, but I have heard that he is a bit eccentric. I think he was much more comfortable in supporting movie parts and in the theatre than as a big star.

Just hearsay from the past, coupled with chat with one of his neighbours.

Could be his work schedule that makes him reported as such, the many oddball characters he shared with on stage in the sixties/seventies could well be something to do with it, but going a bit deeper and away from his profession (he seems to have moved onto narration of wildlife videos ?), the word from a neighbour of his points to pressure of raising his son, in setting the mould.

Anyhow this wasnt meant to be a character assassination, - I do appear to have done quite well though. One incident or an indifferent performance in forty years of acting will always be pulled to the front by those who are paid just to dig up the dirt .

Not many people would agree he was the best Bond, but if you look at his career, he is the finest actor (I mean in the traditional, Shakespearean sense).

Dalton just wasn't macho enough to play Bond, for a lot of people. He is a beautifully spoken classical actor with great depth and sensitivity, but these are not the qualities that make a great Bond. Most people want a hairy brute like Connery or Brosnan for the part.

I think Timothy Dalton was ok.. Connery was the best, and I think Moore the worst (was far too old for the role).

I really liked The Living Daylights.. perhaps one of my fav Bond films.. But I have to say that The Living Daylights and License To Kill would have been better with Brosnan. How close were they to signing him? One day.. but thats another story.

Dalton was not too bad as Bond. i quite like my Bond to be a menacing, brooding character . Connery was the tops of course but Dalton a decent second best.

Best film I have ever seen him in is the film he was in with i think ANTHONY EDWRARAB of ER fame (not sure tho) where they had either terminal cancer or AIRAB and it was a really good film.
