Times Like These

Forgive me for sounding dumb but, given today's cartoons, and how they can be, it's a shame that The Beverly Hills Teens and their creator DIC were both finished; for that matter, I wished the BHTs had been created by some other cartoon company instead of DIC and gave them a more adult darker edge, to character and story. But that is just me.

So what exactly is your statement and/or question intended to spark discussion in this thread? Are you complaing that today's cartoons just don't measure up to your nostalgia-clouded perceptions of what you watched in the 80's? Are you expressing remorse that your favorite obscure 80's cartoon has long since ended and has no chance of ever returning?

You can't just title a thread "Times Like These", spend two sentences sighing and thinking longingly about your innermost desires and then expect people to discuss it.

Also, I'm almost curious as to what sort of "more adult darker edge" you would want from fare like Beverly Hills Teens, but I know better than to ask.

I thought he meant he wished Beverly Hill Teens was created in this-day and age so it would be serious, or something.

Not sure. But I didn't think DiC was dead. They made Trollz in 2005 and Horseland in 2006, so they're still making cartoons.

Yeah, DiC's still around, although perhaps not as successful as they once were. Beverly Hills Teens wasn't that great a show anyway. It was pretty average, from what I've seen of it. Making a fluffy show about California teens "darker" and "more adult" wouldn't necessarily make it any better. Why not just watch O.C. reruns, if that's what you're looking for?:D

Even if Beverly Hills Teens had been produced by a studio other than DiC, it still would have been a weekday afternoon kids' cartoon aimed primarily at young girls, so how "dark and edgy" was it supposed to get? You could say that you wished BHT had aired on prime-time for more mature content, but you'd never see any kind dark, edgy teen drama airing on weekday afternoons as a filler between Cocoa Puffs ads.

Yeah, seriously. It's one thing to say a show can be enjoyed by adults as well as kids, but it's just silly to pretend that it's not primarily aimed at, and watched by, kids. Who are you trying to fool?

Oh well, I want a Darker remake of Bucky O?Hare and i?m not complaining....

The series isn't that forgettable. Sure, I forgot most of the characters except the brainy kid, cuz of that episode with the cliched "love potion" plot. Come to think of it, that's the only episode I fully watched.
hmmmm......
I did like the theme song and the opening.

How edgy and dark could BHT possibly get? It was a show about rich kids whose biggest worry was who was going to the big dance with who.

Plus, the show was aired aired as part of Maxie's World along with reruns of Punky Brewster for a season. There's no coming back as dark and edgy once your show is inserted with PUNKY POWER!
