Tim Burton's Batman - nearly 20 years old!!

Maybe Batman was the best Batman film for a long while, but once Batman Begins came along, it made Batman look like Batman and Robin, in my opinion.

No problem - my point is that the comic book adaptations differ greatly between themselves.... Miller's is genuinely considered the best though I think.

makes sense for a reboot in that style

I can't help finding a film boring. Whilst I would love to say that it was exciting and entertaining, as the poster suggests, I simply can't lie. I thought it was rubbish. As for credibility, as long as I still hate Gangs of New York, I really don't care about credibility. We're all different.

I'm still surprised Rocky V was given a 0, because it can't be THAT bad. If it had been given a one or a two out of ten, then fair enough. Sometimes, I feel people give movies a 0 out of 10 just for the sake of them proving they didn't like it. There honestly can't be many films out there that deserve a zero. At least give it one for effort. :)

I'm with you on The Godfather. It's brilliant. I didn't think much to the second one, but maybe I need to watch it again - it's been a while. I've steered clear of Part III based on everyone's collective opinion.

Please do. It really is a brilliantly crafted second chapter.

The recent restoration work done on both pictures is the most immaculate I've ever seen.

The HD transfers on the upcoming Blu-ray release of the trilogy are so good, I don't think worRAB even do them justice.

A wise decision. ;)

I still regret having ever allowed myself to watch such an appalling film.

Im sorry but Batman Begins was just totally dull. Dark Knight on the other hand was amazing, the best Batman film since Burtons original 2. I have a bigger soft spot for the second one because Penguin and Catwoman were very cool (atleast they were when I was 8 years old)

I watched it last night on Film4. So much better than any films being made today. The Dark Knight pales in comparison. No CGI garbage, swearing or over-the-top violence. I stopped watching The Dark Knight when I saw Two-face's CGI'd face.

mm I have to disagree with this one i think

TDK is far far superior IMO.

I like the old one - but now it seems more for nostalgic reasons.

I noticed last night that at some points it even seemed to drag a little

Well this is a good 'un rumbling... It's harder for me to compere the old films and the new because I started reading Batman/Detective comics in the 90s. U guys should also mention the man who created the sets and structual design of the city in the 89 film, Anton something. Sorry I can't remember the name but he did some design work for the comics too, before sadly comitting suicide.

When u mention the homages in the first Batman, i'm not sure... watched it again last nite, last 20 mins. The bit with the bat-plane and the moon? nothing to do with ET, sorry, I grew up thinking of it as a clever reference to the actual bat-signal, the plane enRAB up making one, you see...

I don't get it. Did you walk out the cinema when you saw Two-Face's CGI face, or did you have a bootleg?

I work for HM Customs and Revenue. ;)

Batman (89) is a classic perhaps a masterpiece.
I've seen it about 20 times and I always enjoy it.
The gothic and dreary setting of Gotham city was unique for its time.
The rivalry between Wayne and the Joker, the chemistry between Basinger and Keaton ,the music score, the sets, all well done.
I didnt think much of Batman Returns or the latter 2 films before the reboot.
Batman Begins was good but not as good as Batman 89.
TDK was excellent though .

As much as I enjoy the film, and Jack Nicholson's version of the Joker.

The Joker in the film is essentially Jack Nicholson in a Joker costume.

Im sorry but i have to disagree with most of this. While I enjoy watching Tim Burtons Batman its just poor compared to the new series. I actually think Batman Returns is a better film.

I disagree with Batman Begins being a boring film- it is anything but. Its something thats not been done before its how Batman came to be and I think its definitley the best batman film ever, it shows realism like never before and Christian manages to play Bruce Wayne in a better way than before, showing a much clearer difference between the Bruce Wayne character he puts on and who he really is. Having said that I did like Michael Keatons version too.

With regarRAB to the Joker, I never thought much of Nicholsons joker at the time and I think less now, Heath brings it to a whole new level, and dont think im one of these ridiculous fan-boys who were praising him before the film even came out, I was highly skeptical of his praise before I saw the film but now know it is justified. In my opinion Heath Ledger IS The Joker, Jacks version looks ridiculous now. And I think the Joker would be very difficult to use in any future Batman either in the Nolan series or any other future series of which there is bound to be.
