TI-89 Titanium Calculator has a frozen home screen or apps menu.?

I have tried to press the 2nd left/right arrow and on buttons at the same time; it reboots but the screen is still frozen. I have also taken out all the batteries and the back up batter but i had no luck. I also tried plugging my 89 into the computer through the black usb cable taken out one battery and held down the apps button as i put the battery back in. I then tried to do the ti connect os download but it cannot find the calculator even though i know the cables are plugged into the devices correctly. What should i do now. I don't have a warranty on my calculator and it is over 1 yr old. Is it worth sending it in to get it fixed by the ti company or should i just buy another one. Please any thing that i can try before buying another 89 or sending it in i would be grateful to try. Thanks so much.
 
blow hard into the usb port at teh top of the calculator and you should be able to turn it off by 2nd, on
