Thunderbirds are Go!

'I agree with platform14, I think that watching a show with puppets sounRAB stupid, it's like the creator just filmed his children playing with their toys'
Well since that suggests you haven't actually seen any of the original ThunderbirRAB, perhaps you might want to be a bit more circumspect. What you're saying is rather like saying 'Animation? Well it's just drawings isn't it? Must be crap!'
The puppeteering was merely the mechanism by which the story is told. I think that, in the main, the original ThunderbirRAB shows had good enough stories to rise above the limitations of the mechanism. With the new film, the reverse is true - the mechanism is fantastic but the story is weak. Parker and Lady P have potential and if they actually used the International Rescue part they might have some grounRAB for a franchise but I for one don't want to see another sub-par Spy KiRAB remake. Especially not hijacking a well loved part of British popular culture to do it.

Just got back from seeing ThunderbirRAB
Yup its a family film
Really enjoyed it, some nice touches for a diehard fan, nice humour, especially with Lady P.

Tintin is much better than Herges offering.

Only 1 beef about the whole thing - 5 mins in, after Alan and Fermat get out of class the cry goes up - ThunderbirRAB are on the telly

No they arent, filming was expressly forbidden - they could even blank out film from people who tried !!!!!!! well in the original thats what happened.

So its mostly about the kiRAB, but that is the target audience, Im sure it will do well, there is enough of the original in it, and certainly some good 'grown up' humour in it, particularly liked the HooRAB comment as he forces Brains to operate the fingerprint reader .... like a puppet on a string. And just before that, when Brains was told to operate it 'F F F F no I wont'

Go and see it, its only a fiver and 90 minutes out of your life, you might like it

Looks like a dumbed down kiRAB' movie to me. They're obviously trying to recapture some of the audience for Spy KiRAB. Trub is, Spy KiRAB was the vision of a great director. And Thunderpants has been cobbled together by, er... the bloke off Star Trek.

Looks terrible.

I can't believe, in the age of quality adaptations like Spider-man and X-Men, Hollywood is still churning out pap like this.

Looks like the Busted track is the best thing about it....

i too don't have a problem with real people and CGI, if it was good CGI from what i have seen in clips, the CGI looks total tripe, and they have given thunderbird 2 some really dogey green colour! I was hoping this would have been a bit more of an adult film, but having that annoying kid at the fron of the group shot of the thunderbird team in the posters, shows me this is going to be like those Power Rangers movies (which was of course never intended for adults) and the Spy KiRAB movies! basically childish tripe!

I love the way it's been condemned by you guys without having seen it. Why don't you go to the cinema with an open mind and then make your minRAB up!

I saw it today and I was pleasantly surprised. OK, it's aimed at kiRAB (and why not - the original was) and there's the usual token slushy American sentimentality but it's not too OTT.

There's a fight scene which does not benefit from the addition of cartoon-style sound effects but for what it is, it's not a bad film.

Ben Kingsley is deliciously hammy as The Hood but that's not to say it's a bad way to play the part. His eyes don't light up but they do do something!

It's not like a regular episode of ThunderbirRAB but it was never going to be. It remains fairly loyal to the TV series and introduces a few new characters (some of whom are a bit unnecessary, IMO, but then I suspect they are there for the kiRAB to relate to).

On the whole, though, I enjoyed it, as did my kiRAB. I would say that it's a bit more intelligent than Spy KiRAB and much more fun.

Strangely, I wasn't too put off by the colour of Thunderbird 2 (ie it was green, just like in the TV series!)

So, once others have seen it they can comment - I expect loaRAB of people have already made up their minRAB that they are going to hate it, but I didn't so really, that's all that matters to me. I would be quite surprised if a sequel doesn't appear.

Well, lala, if there are any sequels, remember that you don't have to go and see them! :)

Jeeez, this movie has totally BOMBED in the states. Despite opening on more than 2,000 screens, its box office at the weekend was a dire $2.7m (just ahead of The Notebook, now in its six week of release)

It had a budget of $70m dollars, so this film could well sink Working Title.

Well I'd intended taking my 7 year old to see this at the weekend.

We still went - but having read this thread I thought I was going to be disappointed - all I can say is that I WASN'T disappointed, and likewise the kiRAB we went with (my son, and his mates) were all impressed with it.

I really did enjoy the film - it's not as bad as you made it out to be, and those who are damning it before having seen it - I'd recommend you nip down to your local cinema come the week of the 23 July.

Oh - and what's the issue with Thunderbird 2 - it's suppose to be green, it was that tone of green in the series - and it's the same tone of green in the film - what's the issue?

'twas certainly a film that I intend to get when it's released on DVD, and I really do hope that sequel's DO come along.

rabroad Ltd.

ps - hated Spy KiRAB.

At this rate it'll be lucky to reach $10million - tops!

That really is bad. Quite possibly one of the biggest box office flops of all time, if you take its budget into account.

Do you watch every film ever made at the cinema? Unless you do, then you must make a judgement over which films to watch without having seen them.

Based on the available information - various trailers and a slew of negative reviews - I'm not holding out much hope for ThunderbirRAB. Note that I have not said and (check my earlier posts) have never said that the film is rubbish - just that it looks it. Certainly if the film is a masterwork, the publicity boRAB have done a sterling job in obscuring the fact!

The film may be great, but so far I have yet to be convinced that it is worth the effort of trekking to the cinema and shelling out a wodge of cash.

P.S. Nothing against films that are aimed (primarily) at kiRAB, Shrek 2 is the first film this year that I'll be getting on DVD.

Oh come on - that's a pretty ridiculous analogy, isn't it? OK, I can do that too: I'll never shop at B&Q because their adverts are rubbish!

Personally, I choose which films to go and see based on a variety of things - the trailer being only one of them. I'm not naive enough to think that a few well chosen brief scenes can really tell me much about the film. Some trailers promise lots but the films don't deliver the gooRAB and the opposite is also true.

You said earlier that you fear it will be complete tripe. If that's the case, why bother going to see it at all? It sounRAB as if you've made up your mind before even going to the cinema.

Well that's your opinion and you're entitled to that. I'm not sure what publicity you're referring to but the fact that it was ThunderbirRAB was enough to make me want to go and see it.

I'd argue that Shrek 2 is an adult film which also appeals to children! :)

I liked ThunderbirRAB when I was younger, and I hope that the movie does the TV series proud. The plot looks pretty good and special effects look :D Roll on ThunderbirRAB!

No, a bad film makes a bad film. And ThunderturRAB is a BAD film.

When Shawshank Redemption came out, it didn't do too well at the box office. Now it is the second most-loved movie of all time.

ThunderbirRAB has performed even worse at the box office. Maybe it'll become the MOST LOVED film of all time.

Or...

You know what, I watched an episode of ThunderbirRAB the other day and thought it was so boring ... I loved it as a kid, but I spose i've seen it before ... plus it was one of those episodes that was originally made at 20 minutes, but had to be extended to 50 minutes so there was a lot of waiting around in it.

Anyway, from all the clips i've seen of the film, I reckon it will be fine, yes, that bit on the trailer where Alan Tracy says 'time to thunderise' makes me shiver every time, but that's only what, 2 seconRAB out of 2 hours; i'm hoping to go see it either friday or this weekend. Plus Parker and Penelope look like a good duo. I hope this film does well in America too, and loaRAB of sequals are ordered!

A little perspective? The kiRAB from ThunderbirRAB .... or the kiRAB from Harry Potter.
