great info up there hamilton,really. if your son does not get better on his own and has to go to the hospital,at least they can be constantly hydrating him with IV fluids(and also IV anti viral meds),which you cannot do at home for him,so that would be a plus. i know how much it just sucks to have a sick child,but sometimes you just have to do the wait and see thing. and that sucks,but its all part of being a caring mom. just so sorry you both have to go thru this stuff.
beth is very right about the anti B thing? if you do not have to take them,don't. the less anti Bs we take in in our lifetime,the better we are for it. anti Bs not only kill off the bacteria thats bad but also the good bacteria. i am kind of wondering why they have not at least started him on something like gancyclovier? there are some good anti virals out there that could possibly help his situation. i do think this is just one of those things that is going to have to run its course before it will completley go away for him unfortunetly. some viruses can linger for a while. i would ask his doc about trying an anti viral med tho and see what he thinks. it could help kick this a bit quicker ya know? a good cough medicine wouldn't hurt either if this is bad enough to make him eventually vomit as well.
in the meantime,all you can really do is just keep him well hydrated and try and keep him eating something. but fluids fluids fluids are what is the best thing for him right now given whats going on. is he having any diarrhea with this or 'just' vomiting? i would also be checking his weight too just to make certain that stays within the norms for him. dehydration can simply also cause,in some people,a pretty significant weight loss if the vomiting goes on for too long or also has diarrhea too. i would also highly recommend just really researching the heck out of this virus and its ins and outs so you really really just 'know' what it is you are dealing with and what you can expect and what the best treatments are for it. honestly,given all the nightmare stuff i have had to deal with with my son and myself,my computer has been the biggest godsend of tons of info on all the things i just had to know in order to really best understand things and just be able to understand what the docs were telling me,ya know? it DOES help,tons believe me.
just try and hang in there H,hopefully this will work itself out soon. and you DO actually now have a solid Dx to go on here too and thats a big plus in and of itself. please continue to keep us posted. take care, FB
