Thoughts on E60

Well looking around it seems most people are talking about either the E61 or the E70. I've recently 'disabled' my N80, and I was looking at the E60 as replacement. The camera on the N80 was always used for stupid things that I could live without, but I did make a lot of use of wifi. The E60 seems to fit the bill perfectly, and is well priced. I just wanted some people with the phone to tell me what it is like. Does it, or has it, ever suffered from the same lack of memory problems as the N80 in the web-browser, or did Nokia sensibly dedicate more of the available memory to RAM in the E-Series? Any complaints with the handset?

I've read reviews in the usual places (MobileBurn, GSMArena, Mobile-Review) and they all seem to really love it.

Looks like a very nice phone. I've tried it in a phone shop and it works great. I wanted a camera so I bought the N80, but if you don't need a camera this is your phone.

What happened with your N80?
 
As a Nokia fan, I decided on the E60 after doing all the research. I did not want a camera, or a "stylish phone". I wanted a business oriented phone that I could count on to provide good voice clarity and reliable connectivity. Having owned several Nokia's in the past I was sold on the Brand.

Upon recieving my new unlocked, unbranded E 60 I was truly impressed with the comfortable size, conservative industrial design and I can say it's the best Nokia I've had. The quality of the materials was exemplary. Everything about the phone was perfect with just one exception.

The deal breaker for me was the display. It was very bright, clear and colorful, however I could not deal with the small size of the fonts and icons. I have 20/20 vision and use a high res display on my laptop. But on the E60 it was just too small for me to live with. In addition I found the combination of colors they used for the various icons etc did not provide much contrast.

When researching the phone I failed to notice that the resolution of this Nokia is the highest they use, and the ONLY Nokia that uses this high resolution All this on a smaller display. This combination just made everything way too small for me. For example: The E61 / E62 series have larger displays with lower resolutions. I can read the display on these just fine. If the E60 would have had the same resolution as the E61 even with the E60's smaller display it would have been just fine.

I had really high expectations for this phone as I really love Nokia's and had been away from them for awhile, using other brands. Another reason I had very high expectations is that I have never had a phone as good as Nokia when it comes to user interface, voice clarity and the ability to hand onto a signal and not drop calls. Then there is the fact that the E60 comes with WiFi, something I use daily.

That said, I believe that I let my initial very negative impression of the display overly influence me. Normally patient, in this particular case my disappointment was just too much and I packed it up, and put it on ebay within just two days. So in fairness, perhaps I did not give enough of a chance.

It was clearly my high expectations that caused my bitter disappointment with the display which in turn caused me to be unwilling to try the phone for an extended period before making my decision.

Does it has an even higher resolution than the n80?
 
The display is exactly the same as the N80 which is the best screen I've ever seen on a mobile phone, so the E60 is identical in that respect.

The n80 screen should be the same size and resolution as the E60, so that should be fine for you.

QVGA screens are becoming the standard though. No phone since the N80/E60, including all the flagships have used the 416x356.
 
I have been using the E60 for 3 months now and love the phone. I find its display to be its best feature. the call quality is excellent as well as its PIM functions. The wifi is a must have for me now that I use it on a regular basis. The lack of camera has not been a real issue for me, even though sometimes I wish I had one it does not make me wanna switch phones. I say go for it, you will not be sorry!!!
 
This phone would have been perfect for me had it had 850.I tried this phone on my cingular network and loved the phone but the lack of 850 truncated my coverage. If they would build this phone with 850 I would buy it all over again. Its the perfect size and carries some of the best build quality of the Nokia products
 
Does the E60 have the same screen as the E50? I just sold my E50 because I could not read it without stopping what I was doing and really concentrate on the screen. The fonts were extremely small and phone numbers in the contacts were all but impossible for me to read.
 
Nope, E60 has 2.1" 352x416 pixel screen (same as the N80). Anyway, I got my E60, and found the keypad far too stiff and uncomfortable. I am sending it back. It also felt quite plasticy, and had a hollow feeling to it.
 
before getting my E61, i was trying to decide between the E60 and the E61... i went for the e61 for the following reasons:

1) bigger battery
2) miniSD support

at that time, i thought the qwerty as not an asset coz i never used one before and i thought it would be difficult to get used to it, but it turns out to be quite easy to get used to it... on that thought, the keypad on the e6o is a bit hard to press, you have to try it 1st, but they are very big and very nice... the fonts can be really small though coz of the high resolution screen, you may want to consider that as well...
 
ya, so what's the best phone for email, contacts and calendar? I don't care about a camera or playing MP3's. I want a quad, 1000 name phone book, readable screen, email, and perfect RF. I am trying a dash right now, but the dial keys are the smallest ones I've ever used. If the font on the e50 was not so small, I would still own it.

I am even considering a 6131 because its quad and nice phone book,
 
I stand corrected as I did make a mistake in my ealier statement that the E60 had the highest resolution on the smallest display. In acuality it shares that distinction with the N80.

Like everything else it's personal opinion and usage patterns. For me the reason I use a smartphone is for all the features that are offered, therefore I'm in front of the display a lot more than those users that process just a few emails etc. It was very hard for me to give up the E60 as my opinion it's one of the best Nokia's ever. Perfect size (small and light) terrific form factor (perfect for one handed use) and I found the wifi connection to be very strong and reliable.

The resolution on the E61/62 series along with the larger display size I find ideal. The only thing that prevents me from using one of those is the width, as I wanted something that I could use on handed and that would not be as large.

Next I bought a 7130c BlackBerry and found that to be the perfect solution.

BBerry 7130c Resolution: 240mm x 260mm on a 40mm x 47mm size display
Phone Size: 115mm x 56mm x 18mm

This is an amazing device. I had previously ignored BlackBerry as they had rather poor phone performance and did not offer a model that was smaller and shaped like a cell phone. This has all changed with the 7130 models. The phone performs as good as Nokia, with perfectly clarity and the ability to hand onto a signal and not drop the call.

Then they incorporated a new technology called SureType. This enables one to enter text one handed just as you would on a regular cell phone. However the exception here is that instead of a keypad that is 3 button across like all standard cell phones, this phone had 5 buttons across in a qwerty style layout. The SureType system learns words and your style as you type. After about two to three days it has captured the majority of you words. By the end of the first week I found that not only was it easy to use but a lot of fun. More impressive is I can enter text much faster and with fewer errors than on a full size qwerty keyboard. Even faster than texting on a regular cell phone.

This is an awesome device that also features push mail and works really fast. Much faster than the Symbian OS. It also syncs with Outlook very fast and reliably. I manage a database of over 1,000 clients in Outlook and the BB 7130c handles these perfectly. Battery life is great, the keyboard has the same high quality keystrokes as the E60 with a bonus, as the blackberry keys are a bit larger and have spacing between them so they are each individual and one can type without looking at the keypad.

This model of BlackBerry has a very intuitive user interface with allows a tremendous amount of functionality. It's very easy to learn and become comfortable with in a very short period of time.

Then there is the display which automatically adjusts to ambient light levels in the area you are working in thereby reducing brightness and extending battery life wherever possible. This feature can also be turned of and then one can choose from present levels of 10/20/30/50/60/70/80/90 & 100% brightness. The display is very bright, clear and well defined. The readability is as good as my laptop. It's also the first TFT display that is very easy to read out in the bright sunlight. Quite an accomplishment. I can sit back and relax while responding to 10 or 20 emails at a time no problem.

Two web browsers are provided as well as Opera mini which is available. And I find that using this phone to surf the web is quite usable and fast. Finally build quality and appearance are exemplary. This is phone that I know I will be using for a lot longer than the rest. I have purchased and used about 40 different phones in the last 4 years and this phone is truly exceptional.
 
What was _so frustrating_ to me as my vision is excellent (20/20) and still I found it too small for any use beyond 10 or 15 minutes.
