This or That - Movie Board Version (READ THIRD POST) New Question 8/03

For me it depends on the movie I'm watching. I'm not going to eat anything while I'm watching something like There Will Be Blood or The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. I probably wouldn't eat it during a horror film either. Summer films are when I normally have popcorn. So your Iron Man and your Kung Ku Panda. A movie that really doesn't require a lot of thinking :lol:
 
I wait. Especially if it is a kids movie. In fact with animated films, I almost always go to a midnight showing in hopes that no kids will be around. But there are movies that I'm so excite to see that I'm willing to brave the crowds. Or movies where I'm worried that if I wait I will learn too many spoilers about the movie.

I saw all of the new Star Wars movies the Thursday night before their release. They were all really crowded and loud and people were up and down but I went with people and it was part of the experience.

My best big theater experience was Die Hard. I was just a kid but I remember so vividly how much verybody was into it and the cheering and the standing up and applauding at the end. It was the first time I'd ever experienced anything like that. Probably before I'd ever even been to the theater.

But mostly, I avoid opening weekend like the plague. I'm a big fan of Wednesday night movies or waiting a few weeks.
 
It depends on the movie on whether or not I see it opening weekend. I'm not trying to put done the teens on this board but if it's a horror film, I can't see it opening weekend because the teen crowd is so rude and annoying. :mad: Normally I'll go at a random time during the week. If it's a Judd Apatow film, I always go to the midnight showing on opening night. If it's something huge that I've been looking forward to seeing like one of the Pirates movies, I also go at midnight.... I'll probably go see The Dark Knight's midnight show.
 
I didn't even think of if I eat at home also. Thinking about it now, I really don't eat at the house either when watching a movie....

Personally, I now prefer to wait until the movie is on its way out to avoid crowds. I've become restless with annoying movie goers so unless it's something I can't wait to see, I'll hang around until the last few days.
 
Ohhhh, great question! :D

In the theater I don't eat anything. Food makes a mess, then the sounds are annoying, etc, etc. At home, it depends on what I'm eating and if there's people watching with me. If there's people I'll make something easy to fix for everyone to grab. If I'm alone, I try to eat before the movie and maybe something that doesn't require too much attention or care during the movie.
 
:lol: I wouldnt be able to stand that, especialy coming from a movie that isnt scary like Boogeyman.
 
I also enjoyed watching Spiderman (part 1) in theatres. At the end, people cheered and clapped and it was great to see how everyone felt about the movie.

I have to agree also, with screaming at every single scene in a horror movie. "Boogeyman" is the perfect example. We went opening night and I kid you not, every single scene it was an uproar from a crowd of teenager girls, who thought it was great to scream at every scene. I remember on one part, where Barry Watson is drilling something, they began acting crazy and screaming frantically and someone blurted out, it's a damn drill shut the F-up :lol:

I think I prefer smaller crowds, though generally, if it's a packed cinema, it won't matter that much to me. I like big crowds because hearing other people's reactions can be really funny, and being a part of that in itself is all part of the cinema experience. I tend to go to the cinema during the day a lot though, and usually a week or so after a movie's opened, so the crowds are never really an issue.

It just depends, I guess. If it's a big blockbuster type film, or a comedy, it might be more fun to watch it with lots of other people (like I did for Indy IV), but sometimes I like the the quietness and intimacy of just a few other people watching a movie with me.

Wow, that answer was really pointless! As long as there's not any annoying people/kids who ruin the watching experience for me, that's the most important thing.
 
Well this normally isn't an issue for me because the movies that I watch are a bit more niche, so the crowd's never that big :lol: but anyway. Yeah like what Ami says it goes both ways - a bigger crowd, the audience reacts with you (this reminds me of Match Point [excellent film, by the way] where JRM drops the wine glass and this girl actually screamed and the whole theatre laughed, it was funny) - but with a smaller crowd, you do get better seats, and there's lesser chance of a baby crying/cellphone going off/people chewing/other crap.

On the whole however I prefer smaller crowds. I like my peace and quiet when watching a movie - to escape from everything else.
 
I agree, it's irritating to hear crunching and messing around with bags during the movie. I prefer not to eat, but I will get water or something else to drink. Some of the theaters here serve coffee, so, if it's a movie you didn't want to go see, you won't fall asleep. :P
 
:lol: thats funny, and yes I like seeing a horror movie with a decent amount of people in the theater just to hear their actions, it can be quite funny and make you feel less scared. But sometimes it can get annoying also when someone is just screaming at every scene there is, especially when it isnt that scary... Im just going to stick with the small crowd still :lol:

To Eat or Not to Eat? Do you prefer to eat candy/popcorn/nachos/hotdogs or would you rather go without?



I like to go without eating. I can't stand to hear bags crinkling, or people crunching loudly on their food. So I figure I won't eat either because I know how annoying it is.

Also, in the summer, my theater serves slurpies! Whose idea was that? Kids drinking slurpies in a movie is the most irritating thing EVER. :lol:
 
See, that's definitely the more practical thing to do. I should start doing this again. It would save on a lot and in today's world, every penny counts, lol. I'm just too addicted to movies. I recently went through and discarded so many movies, it makes apparent just how much I've wasted, which I could've saved on renting them.
 
See, BLONDIE just reminded me of when I watched A Crying Game in a crowded theater and the secret was revealed - the whole audience gasped then said, "Ohhhhhhhhhhh!" all at the same time. It was fabulous, very funny, and I wouldn't have gotten that experience with a smaller crowd.

BUT - overall I prefer smaller crowds (if any crowd at all), like Gosling_Fan. :)
 
I usually wait a while because I prefer the smaller crowd. There's alot less noise from the audience and you also get a better choice of where you sit :nod:
 
Well if the movie is a Horror Flick or Action Flick. I really enjoy the theatre for the whole surround sound experience. Like for instance The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake) TRAILER. I can't remember what movie we were actually there to see, but when the trailer started off, the whole theatre was completey dark and all you could hear was heavy breathing (from Beil) and running and BAM, that chainsaw cranked up before anything was ever on the screen and I thought the whole theatre was going to jump out of their seats. I think the whole theatre screamed, cause it just came out of nowhere and it was so unexpected and you just can't get that at home unless you have surround sound. Then when we went to see it in theatres, we loved it, but when we bought it and watched it at home, we were just so glad we watched it in theatres first, because in theatres it was so much better. If that makes sense.
 
Once upon a time, I would've said buying, because I was in the habit of just buying lots of DVDs (I still am :P), but even ones that I hadn't seen though heard of, just to watch later. But now I'm all about the renting. I have a membership with LoveFilm, an online rental site, and I think it's the best option because 1) I can't afford to buy every movie I want to watch, especially if I might end up hating it, or not wanting it in my collection and 2) it's a great way of catching up with and watching films I've ever wanted to see, even the most random ones.
