Regardless of Qualcomm's CDMA patents, WCDMA was not developed solely by Qualcomm, hence the complaint by Nokia, SE, and others to the European Commission (some more details here http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1035_22-5936927.html ). I'm sure the outcome of this complaint would have an impact on the amount of royalties Nokia and others pay to Qualcomm. It's not as if Qualcomm only receives royalties for phones sold in North America. Qualcomm and Nokia does have a cross-licensing agreement that expires this April, although I am not sure what the agreement covers exactly. Nokia would use their own chipsets for sure, if not for avoiding royalties, then to deny Qualcomm the considerable income from purchasing their chipsets.
 
You can pick the keyboard up for around $130. It fits in jeans pockets, but not as well as other folding keyboards since it only folds in half.

$130 isn't that much after you spend over $1000 on the N95. Look at it like an opportunity to shop for any s60 phone, regardless of whether or not it has a keyboard or not.
 
When you jump to HTC you will find that you have bought a fantastic PDA that compared to any Nokia, sounds like two strings off of a tin can. nd that is before you get into discussing the, shall we say, "features" of the Windows mobile OS.

I left Windows mobile last year - not going back. They are not in the business of making phones - and they dont aspire to - they want to make shiny PDA's that have a phone function tacked on as an afterthought. So understand what you are "defecting" to.

I have a lot of critisism for Nokia, but primarily about lack of enough 3rd party software on S60 3rd. And a few other things. BUt overall they are a maker of far more dependable and human-relevant mobile phone hardeare than HTC.
 
all i have to say is...e90!!! or n99 if nokia releases or shows those phones b4 6months then i might have to skip the n95...but definatly iam going to get one of the three this year!!
 
I am not too interested in the camera or gps. I seem to have got a bit of a lemon of an e50. My gripe is it is very slow on contacts (major gripe) and has a smallish font (minor gripe). Data plan is expensive so I was seriously thinking of waiting for n95, but the current n80 seems a lot cheaper, so should I go for n80, instead of downgrading myself to 6233 or an s40 phone? Wi-fi would be nice. Only downside I can see is the battery. Does the n80 have a faster processor/more ram than e50 or n73 to help with the contacts?
 
There is tons of stuff missing and of what is out there much of it is priced stupidly.

But lets look at examples of what is completely missing. Say If I want to install a New York City street map or subway application on S60 3rd, I am completely f-ed. Not talking about podunk town, but NYC. Seriously that is lame. Vegas? Nope. San Francisco? Nope.
- London, I can get a street map from Lumisoft, okay very good. Manchester? no. Liverpool? No. Glasgow? Edinburgh? Brimingham? You get the idea.
- Out in Europe? Berlin? Well no. Amsterdam? No. Madrid? No. Stockholm? Copenhagen.

Take something as simple as the PIM application. Can you find anything in S60 3rd that remotely comes close to Pocket Informant? Nope. The ones we have are asking a lot of money for barely augmenting the lame built-in app.

Dictionary? If I want a Norwegian-English or Danish to English dictionary. Well I have just about nothing to use. The only one existing on Norwegian is a tiny java one with poor size vocabulary. Danish - forget it. Considering that Symbian is a scandinavia originated company that is lame.

All of the above you could do on Windows mobile without breaking a sweat. But windows mobile sucks as an OS.

Which is why IMO Nokia is missing a huge advantage here by persisting with such lame offer of 3rd party software. It is time we stop pretending. Nokia has done POORLY on this front where S60 3rd is concerned.

As far as price goes, there's always another way to get an application. I'm not proud of it, but I can't remember the last time I bought an application. I simply can't afford them. That doesn't mean I don't have them running in full.

Why can't you use GoogleMaps or MGMaps for all your non-GPS mapping needs? It may be java, but it integrates pretty well, and they're both pretty stable.

I don't think I've ever heard of Pocket Informant, much less used it.

I somehow don't see as much of a demand for a Norwegian-English dictionary, but to each their own. I don't think this reflects s60 in any way because they don't have this one app as requested by you. If there is more of a demand, then please, let's get it ported.

You still haven't really listed any huge applications that are missing? I think you're going to have to be more specific?
 
I believe the N80 has the same processor, but from my personal experience, it's not clocked as fast as the N73. All of them have the same amount of RAM too, including the N95.

If you're that hungry for speed, you should grab an N93 or wait for the N95. The N73 is pretty fast too, but not like those two beasts.

N95 has nice features, best of all worlds, except for size. Cell phones were getting smaller and smaller, then all of sudden they got huge again, which is dumb really who wants to carry a brick with them all day.

forget N95, wait for some reviews to see actually how well it performs, if anything i would much rather buy N75 or 6300 anyday over N95
 
Unfortunately I think Rcadden has officially dubbed it as a fake and i've got good reason to believe him. He said he was sent a copy of the original file and it showed that it was photoshop file within the properties. I'm still more than interested in a CMCTR that can run all of the applications on the internal/external screen without a hitch. I think we have time before the initial price gouging drops on the N95 and the possible release information on the E90. Here's to hoping and waiting.
 
Cell phones may've gotten smaller, but Nokias have gotten bigger...with reason. What other manufacturers can put a 3.2mp camera into a phone and still keep it the size of a RAZR? The N95 isn't that big either. If you've ever used an N80, you'd know the N80 isn't nearly as big as it looks. The N95 is only slightly bigger than the N80, and I think the N95 is slimmer too.

However, the N90, N93, and the N91? Those are pretty big phones.
 
Exactly!!!! Anything is possible....and from FriedBrains source he claims that the internal screen has 4buttons near the screen so that could explain the placement of ok,exit, and options near the face. Web browsing will be insane and hopefully by the time it's released they will begin to support youtube and googe video to complete the browsing experience.
 
N93 is too big, I did think n95 would be better (almost same as n80, but slimmer). But still too much money. If I want wi-fi, I guess I will still have to wait for that 'perfect' phone. Too many complaints about n80 battery life and slider. Too many complaints about n73 creaks.

But I guess if I can do without wi-fi, then n73 (with its firmware upgrades already done and recent price drops) may be right for me.
 
Those are slow, laggy, money drains. Not remotely as fast or responsive as an application with data locally. End of story.

You buy a map application for $20 and you are done - lifetime of the phone and you can transfer to another phone. Do you know how much you spend on datac harges, especially if you are roaming. Your answer is really a useless one. It is like telling someone who wants to invest in a home to buy that they should waste their money on rent.

So dont be disingenious. Google maps is not a replacement for a properly made map local on your phone. If you havent used Lumisoft maps go and get one. Google does not compare.

1) You think the lack of many major city maps is not HUGE?
2) You think the lack of a full featured PIM is not huge?

Really, you must be joking. What I mentioned were just two small examples. You cannot ask me to list ALL the software lacking in S60 3rd. I dont know them all and even if I did it would take years.

IMO you are speaking from a position of not knowing what good software is. So you have no idea what you are missing.

And worse rather than take an honest look at the pricing of S60 software you casually throw off piracy as a solution and say its not a problem. Sorry no. Again you have no proper assessment of this issue, let alone an inisghtful answer.

Best you dont bother trying to assess this situation. I think you are not in any position of knowledge or capability to do so. S60 software choices are deficient and there is not any point in denying it. Its as pointless as debating that the earth is flat.
