This is the most hated group in America. What is the Tea Party, Alex? Correct.

i would just think that a gradual decrease will do better. in the sense that it gives more time for people to innovate instead of revolting because of the drastic change.

i don't hate the tea party for being assholes about the whole thing. it actually brought something up that has been being swept under the rug for decades. but to leave that many poeple high and dry at once just seems like a recipe for diaster.

but i know nothing about economics or any of the shit, all this mess has at least motivated me to learn more

I think what happened with the tea party is people realized it wasn't just a bunch of people screaming and hollering - the movement has some real teeth. Not surprisingly, liberals dislike it.

If you make this into an issue about the debt limit and the credit rating, consider that with 40% disapproval, fully 60% of the country thinks that holding the credit rating and federal budget hostage might actually be a good thing. The media is trying to portray the opposite, but with 60% favorable or undecided, I think the tea party is doing just fine.

capping spending, requiring spending cuts across the board, requiring a balanced budget,

everyone is going to have to take a hit sooner or later now. We are too far past the point of simple fixes without sacrifice to all. Even if we tax EVERYONE 100% we still wouldn't have enough money to pull us out of the hole.

This is a classic example of how people purposely ignore or wrongfully degrade anything that would be painful for them. Ignorance is bliss.

Yes. Namely because the typical two sides have both allowed for the debt to balloon to what it is, much less even exist.

That's only if you assume (aka believe correlation = causation) that this is the only issue people base their approval on. That of course isn't true.

so firing a shit ton of people and severely cutting benefits all at once is practical? wouldn't that just skyrocket unemployment and piss off just about the entire country?

The "liberals" have been so dominant for so long, they literally CAN NOT HANDLE being called out on the fact that their command and control dogma is failing spectacularly. They are SO mad right now

a gradual decrease would be nice but it's never going to happen because politicians push things out 5 - 10 years.

See the major problem is that a new congress or White House has no reason nor are they required to follow something passed by the previous congress/white house.

So when you see politicians saying "we will do xxxx over 10 years" look at what that plan does in the remaining time THEY are in session. Once the next election comes around, anything after that is null and void.

part of the problem with economics is that it's based on political agendas and personal opinions now. That's why you have 100 economists all saying different shit about the same issue. Meanwhile common sense and logic will tell you what's really going on. Just as asdfascist demonstrated with M3 Bavaria. M3 just spouts the same liberal econ bullshit that is spewed by the liberal government econ idiots who are purposely hiding the problems, while asdfascist points out what simple logic and common sense shows you...everyday prices on gooRAB and services are rising at very fast levels which is a real indicator of inflation. M3 ignores that which stares him in the face daily because that goes against the liberal lies that he neeRAB to believe in to feel safe and sound.

It's not just to feel safe and good, it's so much deeper than that. Identity politics. Liberal dogma holRAB that liberals are actually personally superior people. If liberal dogma is discredited...
