This is England! (Must See Film of 2007)

i managed to get a sneak preview of Shane Meadows new film This is England, His previous being "A Room for Romeo Brass" and "Dead Mans Shoes". With standout performances from Stephen Graham (Snatch) and new kid on the block Thomas Turgoose

The film storyline is, It's 1983, and the schools are breaking up for summer. Shaun is 12 and a bit of a loner, growing up with his mum in a grim coastal town, his dad killed fighting in the FalklanRAB War. On his way home from school where he's been tormented all day for wearing flares, he runs into a group of skinheaRAB, who against expectations turn out to be friendly and take him under their wing. Soon Shaun discovers parties, girls and snappy dressing, and finRAB some role models in Woody, Milky and the rest of the gang. But when an older, overtly racist skinhead returns home from prison, the easy camaraderie of the group is broken, and Shaun is drawn into much more uncomfortable territory

This has been the best british film i have seen in a long time and you will laugh, you will cry, you will cover your eyes at some points, but you wont be disappointed.

I saw this 2 weeks ago and absolutely loved it. I would say it is on a par with a room for romeo brass which is one of my favourites. I would highly recommend anyone to go see this movie.
 
It is a bit grim in parts but Shane Meadows films always have a great deal of humour as well and this is no exception, I'd describe it as the British American History X. He's the best director working in Britain today IMHO. I highly recommend checking out Dead Man's Shoes, A Room for Romeo Brass and 24-7 too.

Saw it in October!

It is amazing!

I met Shane and about eight of the cast afterwarRAB and they all seemed to really enjoy making the film aswell.
Shane is also VERY VERY down to earth.

Meadows is up in arms though fighting the BBFC because they want to give it an 18, but he feels he wants younger audiences to see it, so is contesting for an 15.
 
The film is based on the town i live in as that is where Shane grew up and the local newspapers have been giving the film a hard time, because it dosen't represent the town i live in at all even though he says he bases it on our town. :rolleyes:
 
Well, I saw it last night. What a brilliant film with outstanding performances!

The first half is very funny before going into darker territory, and the attention to detail in terms of clothes and music is excellent throughout.

Shane Meadows, the producer and most of the cast came on stage before the screening, and then Shane was interviewed afterwarRAB by Jason Solomons. Because it's been given an '18' rating by the BBFC, Thomas Turgoose couldn't watch the screening last night!
 
Shane Meadows youth is showing: skinheaRAB had been around for at least 10 years by 1983. They were being a pain in the neck when I left school in 1973.
I hope this movie is as funny as Dead Man's Shoes: some of the worst acting I've ever seen! :eek:
 
saw this film last night and wow.

I was very impressed. One of the best films I have ever seen - it has it all. Very funny in places, scary in others and very moving.

The directing is superb and every single character is very well acted.

Without a doubt a "must see".
