This is England 86 (Spoilers)

I enjoyed it too.
I like the light and dark myself.
I didn't think the film was all that amazing as some seem to on here.
I didn't invest so much into it, so I'm not disappointed with the TV show.

This I agree with, but where did this idea that the actors improvised appear from? someone's imagination ?

Re the hammer, maybe it was a bit obscure, did she take with her? or was it in the bag he had packed for leaving ? It is not clear either way really. I think it was pre meditated, but hey :)

Yep agree with everyone who has mentioned Meggy and ESPECIALLY Banjo (he wanted to kick the living sh!t out of Milky in the movie) are these happy go lucky bofoon type characters.

Definitely lazy writing on Meadows part, unless Combos story sheRAB some light to this unbelievable turnaround.

Bruce Jones (Les Battersby) won the European Actors Award for Raining Stones but when he was on Coronation Street he stunk the place up.

The difference is when making partly improvised films and playing themselves, untrained actors can be very good and look very "real" but when they get a script and try to "act" they can't always do it.

I have to agree with you. I'm a big Shane Meadows fan. A Room for Romeo Brass and Dead Man's shoes are up there with the best this country can offer.

There's just something lacking from this for me. I will reserve full judgement until i can reflect on it as a whole, but so far; it's essentially about nothing. All it seems to feed is the common misconception that it's 'grim up north' on the estates. Or at least it was.
Throw in some sensationalist rape scene and there you have it. Dark and edgy 'true life portrayal' of how it was.

Just doesn't work for me.

Stunning piece of television that was last night.

The rape scene was horrific to watch, but it was so well acted, I couldn't help but applaud the 2 actors.

This isn't really for anyone who was a teenager in 86 I think Shane Meadows has developed memory loss. The bit with the hat and glasses reminded me off only fools and horses and everyone looked like Uncle Albert in a French village.
