This is England 86 (Spoilers)

I am in agreement that is becoming a poor let down for what was a truly amazing raw intense Meadows film.

I keep on wanting to like it , but am instead finding the attempts at humour really poor, and at drama very obvious and contrived.



Turgoose for me (and I hate to see it as his amazing breakthrough performance in This is England just blew me away) is very poor ..... I dont know what it is but he captures nothing of the vulnerable yet excitable, lonley yet strong and willful kid he portrayed in TIE.

When he is on screen its just nothing....I think Milky is ok, and I do like Woody, and LOL has been the best part of the show so far, but Turgoose has been very disappointing...:(

I am really hoping Combo will arrive and breath much needed live into the show....but I am not holding out for much :(
 
God that was horrific.

Halfway through I was thinking that Lol was being such a miserable cow, but after that her behaviour and fear is completely understandable.
 
I don't think Thomas Turgoose is as bad as some people are saying. He has a lot less to play with this time round, he can no longer look upon everything with wide eyed wonderment, he's a slobby teen, wondering what to do with his life. Granted, he was super in TIE, but effectively, he's playing a different character this time round. It was all about seeing it through little Sean's eyes originally, but now it's just us, watching him getting on with being a teenager. He's not the live wire he was, but that's what happens during your teens, and I think he's playing it pretty well.
 
This 'ruined' the characters thing.
It's 3 years later, people change especially as we're talking about teens here.
I don't see how Woody has turned into a Tosser either, I still like the character.
I could go on but I think the character thing has been covered quite well in an earlier post.
It's not serious/dark enough, there's not enough backstory for me, but I'll keep watching, watched most of the repeat of episode 3 last night too.
 
I agree , I was of the mind that Milky would do the bad deed and finish off Lol's dad, to help Lol and because of his guilt to his mate Woody, but having seen the trailers for next week im not so sure
 
I was born in 87 obviously never experienced it all but its interesting to look back and see what was going on back then and the skinheaRAB Ive heard about so much and just had to see. The film was well put together but the ending was quite graphic :/ it seems Milky must have recovered well as I thought that would have been the end of him when Combo beat the crap out of him. The series is looking good and I liked the first episode, its good to see what the characters look like 4 years on from the film. I look forward to the next 3 episodes.

Does anyone reckon there will be This is England 92 in 4 years time? I would be interested in that as that year all the rave music was in full swing would love to see them ditch all that clobber and look like ravers in baggies with glowsticks :)
