I moved to London in 84, making regular visits back home.

London was far more clubby - well for me anyway. But back home it was exactly as you describe and as seen on tv in This is England '86.
 
These comments sum it up for me, especially the improv bit, this seems more scripted. I assumed the Film had a lot of improv but wasn't sure (I know Perry Benson did a lot of improv in Operation Good Guys, so thought that may have been the reason for my thinking!)

I'm now just trying to watch it as a different seperate creation. It's ok when viewed like that.
 
That was brilliant. Best TV series I've seen in a while. Must've been pretty good to make me cry, my throat still hurts.

Surprised Lol didn't try stopping Combo from framing himself. Can't figure out whether Combo did a really unselfish act or a really twattish act, I think probably both.
 
You lot are forgetting that Shane Meadows loosely based this story around his own experiences as a child.

He grew up in the 80s too, he knows what was what. Nobody cares that you've found a slight discrepancy in the fashion of the time because you're probably wrong.

Actually, I just read the TV mag synopsis for ep 4:

It says that Woody and Lol put their differences aside, leading Woody to believe he is ready to marry her. Then it also says that Woody sees a way to retrieve things with Lol, but her mind is not on love and she is set for a violent confrontation with her father.

This makes me think that there is no way a wedding between Woody and Lol will go ahead. Either she will choose Milky, choose to be alone or choose to be with Woody, but doesn't need marriage.

I hope it's not the first one as that would seem a little cruel and I doubt it. I think Lol choosing to be alone is the most likely and I can see why Shane would do that dramatically. I must admit that I still want Woody and Lol to get together though. :cry: Largely because I am a romantic, but also because I think Woody's character has been the most damaged by this series, whilst Lol's has excelled. Him just never getting Lol back leaves him as a loser.
 
Enjoyed last night's episode a lot. Think it's going to get much darker though.

Don't think it's worth people picking through which fashions look wrong or right though - people don't all dress the same way now, and I'm sure they didn't in 1986 either.

The guy who played Lol's dad last night is in tons of stuff and he's often a total nutter so I'm expecting some difficult stuff from him.
