This is England 86 (Spoilers)

well I did a bit of reading up on the actor who plays Mick, and apparently he is super friendly in real life,

glad I read that, as I had a desire to gut him from a*se hole to breakfast!

Thought it was excellent again. The phrase "it's all going to end in tears" seems to fit though, not sure of anyone who seems to be on a hope filled path at the moment.

The "Call me Krystal" bit was really funny and the juxtaposing of scenes like that with the reality of Lol's family background is quite stark.

Shame, the screams of horror turned to cries of joy when she got hold of the hammer.

I think Combo likes it inside, there are guys like that. :(

I'm not really loving this, I liked the movie, but this feels abit like there's alot of effort put into the 'look' of it, and not a great script, will stick with it and see, but initial reaction not great tbh. And I was really looking forward to it.

Oh get a sense of proportion and a dose of logic while you're at it.
I'm from London so I wouldn't know what's a fake or real Posh accent for Nottingham anyway, could care less too.
So we've got 10+ characters with differing accents (probably) and someone is going to come to the conclusion that her accent and style of speech is the 'norm' for Nottingham.

Maybe other people came to the conclusion I did, that's the way HER Character talks.
This post may or may not have something to do with how she talks.

Thoroughly enjoyed last weeks's and things I suspect will get darker from here on in. Lol's dad is bound to be a bad 'un and when Combo returns (cant wait for that) things will get messy.

Cant wait for tonight

Me too. The guy playing Flip (I think that was his name) was very funny indeed.

Seeing the pathetic motor cycel gang really rang true as well. On my estate, the real hardest one had a proper motorbike, but all his followers had Honda Melodys and the like.

Yeah, maybe you are right, there doesn't seem to be any other obvious explanation; but it doesn't justify changing him so fundamentally, it seems like a different bloke altogether. The bit at the wedding where he can't say 'I do' was really odd, from being all enthusiatic on the bus and in the wedding place, to just suddenly bottling it didn't seem real. The not wanting to be like his dad bit...well surely he would have had doubts somewhere along the line, not just when he saw his parents at the venue.

Meadows didn't direct these first two episodes, so maybe the next two will be different but I don't see how he can turn it around. Like you say, his defining qualities were his thoughtfulness and kindness, so how he can lose that part of himself entirely I just don't know. It seems his character has been changed entirely for the sake of a soap storyline. Really disappointing.

It's hard for fans of the film to make sense of this, so god help anyone who has seen these two episodes only, they must wonder how these characters fit together, cos I'm wondering myself. Like, why are Meggy and Banjo his great buddies after what happened with Milky? Maybe Meadows will explain that later. I hope so, because I love his work and I wanted to love this.

I also found the bit with the kid with the hat and the glasses quite embarrassing, like Dr Evil and Mini Me. A bit too much.

And don't you think that Gadget looks like that kid off Rab C Nesbitt? :D

I sort of liked it.

Obviously it's only the first episode so I'll give it a chance to bed in. There were moments where I thought 'style over substance' and there were bits where the comedy was just a bit too full on for my tastes (the scenes with the bully spring to mind).

But all in all it was a decent watch.

Totally agree..it actually wasnt as graphic as i thought it would be but still very shocking even though we all knew it was going to happen...yes i wanted to kill Mick i had to remind myself he was only acting...poor vulnerable trev ..what a fantastic actress that girl is.
the scene was absolutely essential to the plot however not "sensationalist" for the hell of it.
well done to all the cast..that was a great episode last night..

Yeah same here, at the wedding 'party' they made 'cupcakes' though, were these around in the 80's?

Enjoyed it though, slightly better than the film which left me a bit flat despite getting rave reviews. Will stick with it.
