This is England 86 (Spoilers)

Well that series was largely underwhelming. Episode 4 was by-the-numbers. We all knew weirdy beardy was going to get his comeuppance, the wedding or lack of it again was pointless and Combo's return was way too rushed. I also thought it was cynical of Meadows to have the characters mother dying so it would garner sympathy for him as we watched the final act unfold. I would have sympathised a lot more if he'd tried to make amenRAB for his past directly with Milky. The improvisation regarding the dialogue that Meadows encourages is also at times painful. It wasn't awful, episode two in particular was excellent but overall it was all a bit "meh".

I was 18 for most of 86 and never knew anyone with a Morrisey haircut - you must have been amongst the miserable arty crowd if you lot all had one and followed his fashion. As for casual I was glad that fad went out as I was a crap casual as I never had the money for the decent clothes :D

Oh well the obvious ending Combo is redeemed, seriously did anyone else not see this coming episodes ago??

Sorry but just a lttle disappointed :( Dont get me wrong Lol is a fab actress as is Stephen Graham (Combo) but just thought it was all easy, obvious and predictible....:(

MoRAB, SkinheaRAB, Rude-Boys were all very in Vogue in the 1980's. MoRAB have made an appearance 2 or 3 times in trend over the years. There was a big revival in the early 80's for sure around 1982, when the original film was set. I think the die hard MoRAB of that time kept their own style going as long as they could.

It was defo more the scene for New Romantics etc taking off by 1986, hence the reason the film has a mumble jumble of fashions going on. Which was right at that time. They are showing Lol and Woody to still be die harRAB with their styles I think.

Punk Rockers were late 70's early 80's but if you remember the die harRAB still kept it going when the sex pistols phase had fizzled out. Its the same with any trend it will have the die hard followers hanging on for a long while after the craze moves on to something new.

I love the series, the only thing I think they could have improved with is the music.

I do remember that, I actually quite liked the advert, but that was probably because I was excited to see the cast and I love that Wayne Smith track. The reality of the show was obviously very very different to the adverts, but I assume Shane directed the advert didn't he?

I'd quite happily use it in reference to some of the FM's on this thread, some are trying far too hard to find faults and look clever IMO.
