this is england '86 (Merged)

I'd agree that it's not up to the standard of Romeo Brass and Dead Man's Shoes.

Unlike his other films it's preachy and unsubtle in it's message.

I expected something a bit harsher and grittier - it actually came across a bit sickly-sweet and "twee". I also felt that the story was a bit far fetched although it was meant to be based on the upbringing of the writer. Very disappointing.

1986 World Cup had a fairly low key build up, post Heysel the game was in the gutter, in many ways Diego's hand did us a favour and reawakened the nation's passion!

Bit of sympathy with Davie's point of view, I was about then too and didn't recognise a lot that was in the film, i'll give this a go though

Watched them both. Love them both. Still love This is England and look forward to the series.

If Dead Man's Shoes was autobiographical, then I ought to be very afraid of Shane Meadows... ;)

Totally disagree with the people saying this doesn't look accurate for the time and completely agree with the person saying it depends on where you lived and what you were into.

In 86 I was in my mid teens in a medium sized industrial town in central Scotland. I was into indie and punk music and hung about with an assortment of punks, mods, goths, scooter boys, psychobillys and skins. Some, like with Sean and the other characters, a few years older than me. Everybody even vaguely 'alternative' tended to hang about together and had little to do with the casuals and neds. This is England 86 is a total flashback for me, and the clothes and hair are for the most part bang on.

Loved the film but thought this was a load of rubbish. Thought it looked quite amatuerish, especially the parts with the 'biker boys'.

Sometimes it really is best to leave well alone and I think this is one of those instances.

Judging by the trailer which has the main character introducing the rest of the characters, it seems like a massive shameless wannabe.

was great in places, some really good performances but a lot of the filler I thought was terrible, reminded me of one of those teen shows like hollyoaks. also really disliked the piano music they used.

I watched this series but found it to busy. So much going on, you wanted to see what happened and answers to things. The end left me thinking, what happened to all these people, apart from the obvious. Should have spread it over 6 weeks and not crammed it into 4.
