this is england '86 (Merged)

The film was quite well received though, wasn't it. So I'm sure more than enough people will enjoy it and it makes sense to show the film before the series starts. :)

There were lots of different 'youth scenes' around back then. It may not be how you remember it but it depends on what part of the country you were in, the crowd you hung out with etc.

I tended to flit between different crowds; there were still a lot of skinheads around who still listened to the same sort of music they did in the late 70s/early 80s. There were also goths, punks, crusties, casuals, rockabillies, soulboys, you name it. Many kids would choose a style and stick with it long after it 'went out of fashion'.

There isn't really the same delineation between sub-cults these days, fashion seems to be a bit more homogenised. Any new 'street cult' that starts to happen now is immediately killed when a million style magazines jump on the bandwagon.

Punks, rockabillies and skinheads I associate with the late 70s/ early 80s, casuals and goths I remember in about 1984 although there were some still around in 1986, crusties later.

You are right about there not being one single dominant scene at the time until rave a couple of years later.

(In the film) That was really weird watching the little lad getting it on with Smell...he looks about 11, she looks 16, and she's waaaaay taller than him, it just looks so bizarre to me!
