This is a quote about photography, due to photo editing, is this no longer valid?

"It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer. You need less imagination to be a painter because you can invent things."
— David Bailey

In my view it was never generally valid Perki - it was David Bailey (notoriously outspoken) making a case for photography as an art form against the art establishment who sometimes view it sneeringly as a craft.

I would suggest in most cases it is an inversion of reality, though the best photographers are just as creative as painters and produce images that are just as stimulating.

Post production clouds the issue as so many photographers now use quick and easy filters to 'compensate' for mediocre images - but most experienced photographers can see through the chicanery.

Still valid. SOMEONE still has to take a picture. No matter how much you edit something, you still can't mask the original photograph. You can only change it. But to have a good picture, you've got to TAKE a good picture. Not take a lousy one then photoshop it to death. You haev to have the imagination to actually take an ordinary object and see it in a different and beautiful way. Valid.
