Howcome courts don't just throw out and ignore those really ridiculous cases of suing?

I never really understood this, as I don't know much about the legal system.

But there was this case I saw on TV in Australia, a man crashed his car when it was raining and he sued the council because there were no signs saying you should slow down when it rains, because the road is more slippery, so he continued to stick to 80km/h on a rainy night on a dirt road and he crashed. So basically he expects every road in Australia to have a sign saying roads are slippery when wet - slow down.

How on earth do these cases win???

Mostly you are not receiving the whole story. Many people talk about the case in America where a woman sued McDonald's for scalding herself with hot coffee. Most people ignore the fact that the same McDonald's had burned 27 people because there coffee was waaay over serving Temperature. In fact the woman received third degree burns which could only happen if the coffee was ridiculously hot.

In the case you put up the road may be coated with something that gets EXTRA slippery when wet. The trees or plants nearby could cause an unusually slick surface in that area. There could have been previous accidents alerting the authorities to the hazard posed in that area.

tl;dr -- if they truly are ridiculous they lose.
