This has been bugging me for years...

In Die Hard with a vengence, The boys are by a fountain and they have a 3 gallon jug and a 5 gallon jug.
They have to wiegh out exactly 4 gallons

How do they do it?
i have watch the film about 6 times and i still have'nt a clue, even though they tell you how.

Please someone, put my family out of its missery where this film is concerned
 
fill the five and pour from it to fill the three - this leaves two gallons in the five gallon jug.
empty the three gallon jug, pour the two gallons into it.
fill the five again, pour out into the three gallon jug until that's full - this leaves four in the jug.
