This could be BIG - possible cure for many autoimmune disorders?

These are adult stem cells. Not trying to start a "holy war" here, but almost everyone agrees that this type of stem-cell research is a good thing.

My point is simple. I have a cousin with Lupus, her case is mild, but she is very active in the community. A friend of mine's mother has MS and she's wheelchair bound...these findings are amazing!

Am I the only one that finds those two treatments to be VERY similar? We could be on the cusp of finding a single treatment that should, in theory, work for a large number of autoimmune disorders!
 
I work with a man who has bone cancer and they harvested his OWN stem cells to grow him his own marrow for transplant. He had that transplant last week..

My son was a burn patient and they grew his own skin from cells from his own skin.

I can see where this will do a lot of good for many people.
 
Basically, it was showing that both lupus and MS have been successfully treated in small samples by using bone marrow stem cells, to "copy" the immune system of the patient, then giving them chemo to destroy their immune systems (and the autoimmune response), then "reinserting" their immune system, where they get all their own acquired immunities, but not the autoimmune response causing their diseases.

Closest thing to a cure I've seen. Even if it only turns out to be a very effective, long-term treatment that has to be occasionally repeated, that's still an amazing breakthrough. If I had severe lupus and could be essentially symptom-free by going in for heavy chemo every 5 years I could deal with that!
