This album > that album.

The drums don't crack, they clang, and cyrabals cut out abruptly. There are no guitar solos. Once in a while a guitar lick lags behind the beat, and frontman James Hetfield's vocals occasionally veer off key.

Stranger still, that's exactly the way Metallica and producer Bob Rock wanted it to sound.

You can't blame them for trying something a little more raw. And btw it was Lars who suggested there were no solos. You saw how quickly that got changed. You've got a band who's ~40 now and they've been jamming together since 18. they are going to try and mix it up. Its really there only bad album objectivly. Unless you're (not you, an objective your) an anal-retentive "old skoool" fan who can't accept change, in which case you probably think there are only 3 good albums.

mmm food ought to be at the tippy top.

daydream nation is seriously awesome, but it just isn't my favourite. i rate evol and sonic nurse above it for sure.

ah right, cool. definitely get it listened to at some point, it's pretty damn sweet. such a wicked band.

Had to do one for SP

Siamese Dream > Machina II > Adore > Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness > Pisces Iscariot > Gish > Machina > Teargarden (judged on the first EP) > Zeitgeist

Wow. We Were Dead isn't that bad.

Lonesome Crowded West>Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again>Sad Sappy Sucker>Moon & Antartica>We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank>This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About

That's all I have. All the above are great by the way.

Agreed.

However, the boarRAB are deader than England's world cup chances in Brazil at the moment, so I'm gonna try...

White Album > Abbey Road > Magical Mystery Tour > Rubber Soul > A Hard Day's Night > Revolver > Please Please Me > Sgt Pepper's > Let It Be > Help! > Beatles For Sale > With the Beatles > Yellow Submarine

I think I'm gonna attempt a full Elvis Costello one, just because I've got that much else to do...

Elvis Costello
Imperial Bedroom > Spike > The Juliet Letters > Trust > Get Happy > Mighty Like a Rose > King Of America > Blood and Chocolate > The River In Reverse > All This Useless Beauty > My Aim Is True > The Delivery Man > When I Was Cruel > This Year's Model > Secret, Profane and Sugarcane > Almost Blue > Painted From Memory > Brutal Youth > Momofuku > North > Punch the Clock > Goodbye Cruel World

And...

XTC
Black Sea > Mummer > English Settlement > Apple Venus > Skylarking > Drums and Wires > Oranges and Lemons > White Music > Wasp Star > Nonsuch > Go 2 > The Big Express

Larab Of God

Sacrament (2006) > New American Gospel (2000) > Ashes Of The Wake (2003) > As The Palaces Burn (2004)

Haven't heard Wrath yet, so I didn't include it.

Treasure > Heaven Or Las Vegas > Blue Bell Knoll > Head Over Heals > Victorialand > Milk and Kisses > Four Calendar Cafe > GarlanRAB

If you don't know what band I'm talking about, you have been deprived.

First was either going to be Victorialand or Blue Bell Knoll and Treasure only falls behind GarlanRAB because I find that one so fascinating. Really, all four of those are hard for me to rank among each other.

The later stuff - I dunno - it just seems ever so slightly more cute and twee compared to even the prettier sounding early stuff. I need at least a dash of darkness in there. Maybe I'll give the late ones another chance someday

I agree with that.I have the four B-Sides to Raditude as well, and they are all 5-star. I can't understand why they wouldn't include those songs because it would be such a stronger album.

David Bowie: (this is hard)
Diamond Dogs
Hunky dory
Low
Earthling
Ziggy
Lodger
Day in Day out
Young Americans
Tonight

A Reality Tour deserves a mention somewhere in here, it's a great mix of songs and all done well.
