Third films that ruin a movie franchise

Rambo III
American Pie III
Not sure if this counts - but Red Dragon, although I didn't think it was a bad as most people make out.
Crocidile Dudee in Los Angeles.

I think some mentioned are a bit harsh. Terminantor 3 wasn't as good, but still a fine film. Jurassic Park III was better than II in my opinion.

Beverly Hills Cop III, RoboCop III, Matrix Revolutions, Omen III, and The Godfather part 3 are all definate good calls.

I thought Back to the Future part III was far better than the second one but i gotta agree on the matrix, total crap money spinner.

I'm no Tolkein purist, but the problem was all the bits that PJ changed. With the the scouring of the shire and death of Saruman removed for dubious reasons, he needed to trim the films more. The Sam/Frodo stuff was on the whole interminable and repetitive, and the addition of the soft focus jumping on the bed 'goodbye scene' for the main protagonists was unforgivable, and an unnecessary "Hollywood moment".

I spend much of my time with the obsessivey Star Wars types, and I know none of them that say that... Although one claims that Empire falls apart in the middle so he is patently mad as a hatter, and doesn't count. Sure they bitch about ewoks*, but to most fans, Star Was ended when the credits rolled at the end of Jedi.

(*Although to quote Simon Pegg, "Jar Jar Binks makes the ewoks look like f**king Shaft")

for me the obviousl candidates are

Return of the Jedi - in relative terms (all the prequels are worse)

Blade Trinity - Wesley wasn't bothered and looked bored throughout the whole film

Terminator 3 - totally shits on the 2nd film for an unnecessary follow on

Matrix Revolutions (2nd film wasn't much better)

Scream 3 - the non-KW stuff didn't make any sense

Spy kiRAB 3: Game Over was very bad. Stallone's performance particuarly was awful as the villain.

Evil Dead 3 was also bad in my opinion because it was too much comedy and less of horror than the first two.

If third films ruin a franchise better not go to the cinema in the near future. Our Odean was advertising these as their forthcoming films

Shrek the Third
Spiderman 3
Ocean's 13
POTC 3

No others - just those!

Back to the Future part III
Return of the Jedi
Blade Trinity
Alien 3
Godfather part 3
Terminator 3
Matrix Revolutions

All terrible films or at least not as good as the first 2.

Why is it I always watch the Francis Ford Coppola films that are poorly rated? I saw 'The Godfather Part III' and 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' within the space of 3 days and very recently had to watch 'Koyaanisqatsi' which he produced.
That remind sme, Coppola produced both the 'Jeepers Creepers' movies and apparantly a third one is in talks. I was not a fan of the second one at all.

Yeah, I have no idea why they do that with Superhero films.... Always with the third one they have at least 2 bad guys, too complicated a plot, too many characters.

They should keep it simple. For example, X-men 3 should have been about either 'The cure', or Dark Phoenix, but not both.

"Back To The Future III" was an excellent trilogy finale -
shame there'll never be a Part IV.

Has anyone mentioned "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III",
or does this not count, since the previous films were 'okay' at best?

Did anyone see "Home Alone 3", in 1997,
made without any cast members from the previous films?

At the time I liked it a lot, these days I cringe because all the gags are recycled from the first two.
I see the problems with thrid films often include making a thir done way too similarly to the first two (Austin Powers in Goldmember) or completely different (Army of Darkness: Evil Dead 3).

Without a doubt Superman 3 which had an opening which was like something out of the Benny Hill show.

By the By I do think T3 gets a poor press and I thought it was quite good.

Oh! Crocodile Dundee in LA was much better than the 2nd one (but still poor compared to the excellent original).
JPII was my favourite of the 3 Jurassic Park films - I know I'm probably in a minority here.
