I've said before that my favourite trilogy of all time is Scream because the first film reinvented the horror genre for the 1990s whilst all films like 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' did was copy the formula, surprisingly that too was penned by Kevin Williamson.
Scream 2 was a good sequel, I see it as equal because we saw how the characters form the previous film had developed and there was a lot of interestign symbolism, for example Mrs Loomis was reoresentative of Mrs Vorhees of Friday the 13th Part one.
I still like Scream 3, I just struggle to liek it as much as the other 2 because of the franticness of it and the typical "no.3 feel". I saw it as a good dark comedy whereby it mocks Hollywood completely with it's use of characters, such as Parker Posey's character or the Detective that humorously said in reference to 2 phtotographs foudn at murder scenes, "Two more and we can publish a calender".
Ehren Kruger certainly created characters that I didn't care for, I mean as a viewer what was I supposed to feel for Jenny McCarthy's character? And the end twist could have been brilliant if only we knew more about Roman. Apparantly Angelina was to be the second killer and a backstory was already developed that she attended WooRABborro High.
As far as dark comedies go, Scream 3 was hilarious. I notice that you can see were Scream was going after Scream 2 because in that film Sid had become slightly tougher, she adopted a fashion sense that would follow her in Scream 3, Gale started workign for thwe police, and most importantly, the murders started to be exploited through Hollywood movies.
The third film was still clever, just not in the same way which is why I struggle to class it as good as its predecessors.
That quote was from Scream 2 where I still liked Gale. I have to admit that in the third film she became more omedic and less bitchy. I disliked how her character recycled the same garish fashion sense as she did in the first movie and adopted that tedious hairstyle but I liked how in the third film her and Dewey's relationship looked well and truly dead but blossomed all over again whilst this time Gale also had a rival in the form fo Parker Posey.
Lord, I sound like such a geek.
