Good luck with whatever decision you make, but it sounds like you have already made it. The dealer will probably buy it back if you are willing to take a big hit.

I guess not everyone likes to ride beautiful Italian women!

Yes, sell it. It sounds like you will never be happy with it. Really, she thinks a gsxr looks better?......I just threw up in my mouth a little.

My wife thought the s1000rr looked better than my 1198s.....WTF?

Anyway, I had some of the same feelings after I got mine. It totally sucks as it came stock for riding around town. I have done a lot to the bike since then which has totally transformed it. Most of the mods I did myself and actually had fun working on the bike. If you don't like to work on the bike then it's not so fun. I don't think any sportbike is a good stop and go in town bike, especially the ducati. Yes it gets hot....yes it does not like to go slow....but it's a race bike. It's not really meant for traffic even though that is how it is presented as on the showroom floor. It's a blast to ride though. I would not use it as a daily commuter for the heat and slow traffic issues and for the fact I would worry someone would steal it when parked. It does make for awesome weekend fun. If you can afford to sell it back and take a huge hit, I would suggest you keep it and get another used bike that is better for your daily commutes. Then save the duc for your weekend get out and kick ass jaunts. Eveyone stares at it and everyone likes the duc everywhere I go. Even the new s1000rr has been getting pretty hot in traffic from what I have been reading.

For what it's worth here is what I have done to the bike....

evr slipper clutch
evr clutch slave - makes the clutch lever easier to use
ecu reflash - GREATLY helps the low rpm fueling
full exhaust - I don't care what anyone says this is not gonna make it run any cooler
speedymoto top triple clamp - looks good and slightly raises the bar height which helps the wrists a litte

other mods as well, but mostly for aesthetics

Just my opinion but it is a bike that will grow on you if you give it time....also you have to be willing to work on the bitch.....it's fun and will help some of your issues!

I use my 1198S as a daily commute to work and back in traffic and it IS hot, enough to bring out serious welts on the inside of the thigh if you get stuck in heavy traffic - lane splitting is your best friend, as is keeping it moving as long as possible - for me it only becomes unbearable if you're actually stopped with a foot down. Keep one on the peg and when the heat is too much swap feet.

As for the revs, who says you cant get the revs up in traffic, you can hit 100+ ks and be back to the limit in seconds. The torque is what makes this bike special in my opinion. As for comfort, I thought I'd made a mistake buying the 1198 at first as I found it seriously uncomfortable but after a week all was good and has been ever since, FYI my previous bike was a '98 900SS so it was similar but I did feel the difference.

While it would be easy to say 'sell it' as it does seem that you've bitten off more than you can chew, I would advise keeping it - within a few weeks you'll be singing its praises I'm sure.

Hey guy ,a couple of things here.
1.Learn to ride the bike it will never be that gixxer.
2.Give it some time at least as long as you had the gixxer.
3.Get yourself in some decent form of physical fitness it will become easier to ride.
4.Welcome to the club,RELAX.

like what was said before try the 14 tooth front sprocket and some aftermarket slip-ons to get rid of the cat and you will like the bike a lot more. i ride my 1198 every single day, from short to longer trips and enjoy every moment of it. (the 1198 has just clicked over 12,000 miles).

let me tell you, once you have gotten to grips with the twin's characteristics, you will never want to go back to a i-4, trust us on that.

Yes, do i sound retard? I want to sell it...the reasons

No my friend, you are not a retard. You just lack something called "common sense". Why would you buy something without trying it in first. Or at least you could have driven to the nearest Ducati dealer and ask for a test ride or to a friend for that matter. I'm not going to mention the fact of "online research", we'll talk about that another day.
Anyway, you are not me, I'm not you and we all are different. Good. Now, do not compare how a I4 engine feels vs a V-twin. Just the characteristics of each engine alone will make the bike handle and feel totally different even if both engines can put out the same amount of power and torque.
Give it a try, I don't know how long that could be, it is up to you. If not happy or satisfied then sell it, trade it or whatever. Point is, you have on your hands a special motorcycle with some unique characteristics and it is up to you to accept the challenge. I'm not trying to persuade you in any direction.... is your choice...choose wisely.

Peace, good luck, God bless.

Based on the fact that you'll get raped on the resale no matter what, I'd suggest you give the bike a chance, you already have it, be sure that's what you don't want, you purchased a race bike, a real one. You'll get to love the bike, connect with it, trust us!
