Thinking of Selling My 1198S That I got 2 nights ago???????????

Yes, do i sound retard? I want to sell it...the reasons

1) It's completely different feel than the Japs which I like better. Or Inline 4 you can say it.

2) It does not like low RPM which I do not go track so will never able to take it over 6-8k RPM on local street. Even on the freeway, how far can I go? 2nd gear at 3k rev, I am already traveling 40+ MPH.

3) Too much bike for comeback rider. I have stopped riding for 16 years... Much more torque and power than the Gixxer I have right now.

4) Feel I am sitting on the grill. My bud and hamstring are both cooking during low speed right - even at high speed, it's warming.

What to do, cannot test ride!!!!
 
14t and slip-on solve your problem. It is a L twins, I keep the RPM around 4k to 5k on local.

Are you comparing 600 gixxer with 1198??? They will never be the same. If you got problem controlling the throttle, get the Dan Kyle throttle tube will help to smooth out....
 
what is 14t? I understand there will never be a comparison between the 1198 and gixxer. But what i meant is I like the inline's character... it's just different. Those can be adapted but the COOKING part....really dude...it's cooking, not just warm. I do ride daily and this is not the daily bike!!!
 
sorry im a little confused are you saying the duc doesnt like lower rpms, or that you dont like lower rpms? second which gsxr are are you referring to is it the latest one and what is the displacement?
 
"14t" is a reference to your countershaft sprocket, ("14 Teeth"). My1st is suggesting that you go to a smaller countershaft sprocket, which will make the bike accelerate quicker, but reduce your top speed.

I'm not at all sure that changing your final gearing will in any way improve your impression or experience of the bike, but that's a different discussion.

As for the heat, Ducatis run hot. At anything under 50 mph, they start to overheat. Ducati superbikes are basically street legal track bikes. They need to be run hard and fast. If you do this, the bike will stay cool. In stop-and-go traffic, riding around town, commuting, the bike is unbearable. And rightly so, it wasn't designed for this. If you use the bike for something it wasn't designed for, you won't like the end result.

Also, a large bore L twin is a fundamentally different power train than an I-L 4. Some people prefer the I-L 4, others like the L-Twins, neither one is better, it's really a matter of preference and what you're used to. Do you want arm wrenching acceleration when you hit the power band? If that's what you like, nothing compares to an I-L 4. If you want an engine that pulls like a freight train from 2,000rpms alll the way to red line, you need gobs of torgue, and nothing has torgue like an 1198.

And forget about slip-ons, if you want to reduce your heat, put a full exhaust system on it, and ride it hard. It'll stay nice and cool if you keep it over 80mph. But don't expect miracles, even with a full system on it, the Duc runs hot. Remember, you have a power plant generating 175+ horsepower, encased in a plastic fairing. There's no way that's not gonna get hot.
 
14tooth is a 14 tooth front sprocket.
Coming from an inline 4, the Ducati will take some getting used to. Two days isn't enough time to judge the bike, give it some time.
 
Get the exhaust will defintely cut down the heat, but you do need to keep the bike running above 40mph to keep the heat down especially in Summar.

Give yourself more time with the 1198 and you will like more and more everyday.
 
Give it some time, you and your body will get used to it. However, if you do not like change and you are wating this bike to be your GSX-R you should just sell it. There is plenty of things you can do to minimize your issues with the bike. To cut the heat down a little, look into getting your stock pipes Ceramic coated if you aren't looking at spending thousands on an exhaust system.

Did you get this bike to commute?

I came from an R1 and I am still working on getting used to this bike.
