Thinking of joining the US military after college as a officer and wondering which

branch/lifestyle is like? I will be graduating in 2012 with a degree in Liberal Studies (Early childhood Education) but I am looking to use that in my later years in life. My passion right now is to join a military branch as an officer. I was wondering how the lifestyle is like and the job opportunities that are at my disposal. If forced to go into war, I will gladly risk my life and defend my country to the best of my ability. I was wondering which branch would best suit me with this information given. Also I would like to know how applying for a job in the military mixes in with actually going into war or are we given the option because I am a little confused about this. I am looking to stay for 20 years if possible.

you do not join as an Offficer, you apply for a commission.

I can tell you your degree is NOT gonna get you an offer from the Navy or Air Force, and probabably not anybody else either the Military is looking for Degrees in the hard sciences like Engineering and Math. unless your GPA is 4.0 and you have a strong packet( lots of leadership roles in and out of school, a sport and community involvement) you will have little hope of being offered a commission.

It would be who of you to figure out what you want to do in the military first.

Do you want to be a Flight Officer (Pilot), Command Ground Troops, be in an office all day, be in the field, etc.

Check the MOS lists on wikipedia then post a more specific question ie; 'If I want to be a pilot which branch should I be.' or, 'if I want to command ground troops where do I go.'
