...because it's too expensive for me.

I have two SD receivers and I own both of them. I don't have any plans to upgrade to HD.

It used to be that my Canada Digital Advantage was $35 a month when I first got it, now with all the extra fees and price increases it's costing me $55 a month (before taxes). It's nice to have all those channels, but I rarely watch any of them, except the sports channels.

So I was thinking of upgrading to a new package - with basic channels and only the Sports 1 theme pack. That way I wouldn't have to pay a second receiver fee.

My calculations say the total for this would be $32 basic + $8 one theme + $2.99 system fee = $42.99 plus tax.

Or I could go for the Digital Essentials which would be $52 + 2.99 = what I'm paying now.

Is my math right? What are your thoughts on this move? Or should I just call and threaten to cancel and hope for a better deal?

I'd call the cancellation # and get them to get you a better deal. They will probably offer you 30-40% off your programming for a year. It's funny how Bell's most loyal customers are the ones getting shafted the most. They try to force you off those grandfathered plans by hitting you with these price increases, and when you switch to newer plans, you end up with less channels.....then a few months down the road, they hit you with another increase. They did the same thing with their cell plans....they can't raise the price of your plan because of your contract, but since the system access fee isn't a part of your contract, it's okay to bump that up from $6.95 to $8.95 for example. No wonder the company is struggling. Heck i got a call from Shaw the other day(their my internet provider)and they are offering me a free HD PVR if a switch over, no contract, and none of this bs about paying $500 upfront and then getting a credit back on my bill.

Frankly I hate threatening to cancel as a yearly ritual, but if that's what it takes...

Too bad I don't have access to the wide array of HD OTA like the GTA does, or I'd put up an antenna in a heartbeat.

Remember that once you turned your Legacy package in the current package you can not go back...

the cons in upgrading is like my ex coworker told you - u can`t go back (ex-agent, i read ur replies.. why did we loose you? u seem great)... the cons with changing is that the price will never be that low, in order for you to have all the channels you have, you will be paying a lot more, even with a discount offer, you will still be paying more. and the offers can only be made to a certain point. I have dealt with escalation of customers so frustrated about their bills and trust me there was nothing that could be done... if the HD is really that important for you, do your calculation again. HD is great yes, but my suggestion is to grab a new brochure and check the channels you really want... now if you have the grandpa package, you must be a valued customer, some offers can be made.. do your search about the price, then call the retention team (hate to say this.. but)

the more you call the more offers you get... at first,.... then the less offers you will have, as we count all the past offers that was given to you.

superagent, I said I DID NOT want all the channels I have now. And I also said that I have NO plans to upgrade to HD.

Hopefully when I call Bell I'll get somebody who actually listens to me!

Your calculation look right to me. If that is all you need then that should be the max you pay. Dump the other stuff.

If you call retention or not, that's up to you, but you shouldn't pay for stuff you don't need at a minimum.

yea it would be nice to be able to sub to only channels you watch the most but it doesn't work that way. with almost any theme pack you choose you are still going to have channels you will never watch. i hate it myself becsause i like the fight network but the theme pack its in has no other channels i would watch

Just make really sure it's what you want. it's a one way trip plus theres the "adjustment" period that happens when you make ANY change to your bill:o just be prepaired for it

It absolutely is what I want. The change is done and I'm saving $13 a month.

The only channel I sorta kinda will miss is Discovery, because it's one of the few channels in the 500's or 600's with remotely interesting original programming, but it's not worth that much to me.

I figure you took the base + 5 theme packs (I might be wrong). If you add Discovery the theme will only cost you 5$/month, so you will still save 7$!!!

Totally wrong. I think you need to go back to the beginning of the thread and read it over carefully before posting again.
