i too have been looking into this. as you know, jerry lewis had this done. my doctor said it is last resort. i do wear my 10's unit a lot and it does help, guess wearing it outside on your skin may be better than having an operation and permanently inplanted. do you know anyone that has had this procedure done. i have had surgery (fusion) on L 4-5) in 2000, which dr. said was successful, but still and have always had LOTS of pain. have had numerous facet injections, but still no relief...feel i am constantly looking for something new to stop the PAIN!

I too have had failed surgery, acupuncture, physical theapy, pain meRAB, none of which touches the pain. A friend's daughter had a failed fusion about 4 years ago and after many years on serious pain meRAB decided to investigate the Spinal Cord Stimulator. She is thrilled with the results. She is a runner, and is back to running and back to a very responsible full time job. She has the new Medtronic device, and was able to do a trial of it before it was surgically implanted. I am inquiring as to if there is a surgeon in my area that does that surgery. There is a very interesting video with a good description of the surgery on the Beth Israel Hospital web site. The MD's name is Dr. Robert Sheu. I think I am going to give it a try.

I tried having it done and it failed during the phase. We don't know why but once it was implanted, all stitched in place, when the tech was trying to get everything dialed in place, we couldn't get it to go any higher than my left knee which I have a terrific amount of scar tissue from 4 previous knee surgeries. The pain was horrific and it finally had to be removed.

I wish you better luck than I had with it.
