Thinking About Modding my e61: Paint Suggestions?

you offend my name sir.

krylon is spraypaint. krylon fusion is designed to bond to plastic.

now before everyone poo poos on spraypaint it really does work and does look nice. sure using automotive paint will be cool, until you touch your dried phone and the paint chips off. i know this from experience. i tried to airbrush one of the aforementioned samsung flippers.

if i may offer a few tips BEFORE you paint olly:

masking tape is your friend (obvious)
before you paint, wipe the to-be painted surfaces down with vinegar. this removes all the dirt and oils left on by your fingers and such that will distort and blotchify your paint. obviously after you wipe it down don't touch the part you will paint.

if i think of anything else i'll post. would anyone appreciate it if i wrote a tutorial on doing things like this?

It comes in flat black in both spray & paint forms.

I presently have a black rubber band around my phone's edges made with good rubber tape. It helps prevent dings & sliding. I'll try the spray rubber paint & see how it goes.

i get my phone back tomorrow but im no too thrilled. My friend who painted it showed it to me today and the color was fine but there was some dirt under the paint. he said he was going to fix it and that i wouldnt notice it but he doesnt know how picky i am. ill post pics and let you kow what type of paint he used. i have seen over 20 bikes and helemts that he has done and all of them came out perfect. i must have some bad luck for such a small job to get messed up .

well i went to pick it up and i told him to keep it until he gets it done right. not only was the dust still visable but it was rough in 2 spots where there were small bubbles. i would advise anyone that wants this done to order the oem housing first then you wont have to be without your phone for a long period of time. also if they mess up its not that big of a deal because you still have the original housing.

I'd use a thick rubber paint - like that used for tool handles. It'd provide some cushioning against falls and help prevent the phone's sliding off tables and slipping out of pockets.

matte black is what I would do if I still had one but camo is flat out

....my father is retired Army Rcadden and every time I see camo It brings back memories of Ft. Hood Texas. I lived there 2 different times when I was a kid along with Killeen (spelling?)

i spray painted my old e720 a while back, came out great, not too hard either. but i flipped the phone open before it had fully dried and the paint stuck to the rubberized part and chipped.

Here are the pics. the color didn't come out how i wanted . i originally had a pearl color and it didn't look right so he changed it to tangerine.but no pearl. Its not perfect and im not sure it will hold up but here it is. he used the same paint he used to paint motorcycles so it should hole up.

Yea he put 3 coats of clear.orange peal effects? after he waxed it i did see two small spots where it looked like the wax took some color away. All of the bikes he does come out perfect so i don't understand why he had a problem with the phone. well it was my birthday so he didn't charge me a dime so im not too upset.. plus i ordered a spare housing in case i wasn't happy with the outcome.

I forget the name of the site but i did a google search and found instructions. Only scary part is takling off the antena cover
