thinking about joining a gym?

I'm a 17 year old girl and im thinking about maybe joining a gym. I dont want to drop major pounds or anything, i just want to tone up and flatten my stomach before summer. I feel like the only way for me to get motivated is for me to go to a gym. Do you think that going to the gym a few times a week would actually benefit me? Also i was thinking about joining planet fitness if anyone has ever gone there what did you think of it?
 
Working out around other people makes me work because I can see what other people with my body type are doing and I want to one up em because I'm competitive. Seeing other people work out can help motivate you.
