Thinking about getting a monster 696

So now that ducati is doing this 2.99% financing on naked bikes im thinking about picking up a 2009 696 for around 8 grand OTD and pay for it over the full 60 months (2.99% is free money especially heading into the kind of growth that we're looking at) at like 100 bucks a month which is less than I spend on a weekday night out in NYC (so I just have to curb my drinking one night a month or so) and I wanted to know what people thought about the bike.....I know....I can get a streetfighter or a monster 1100....to be perfectly honest, aside from price, I think the 696 is sweet looking....Right now im on an 848 and was going to go for a hyper, but I know ill kill myself on a houligan bike like that and I was wondering if im just going to be bored shitless riding a 696 compared to my 848....I live in NYC and do a lot of 1-2 hour trips so the 696 would definitely be more comfortable and get better gas mileage....I just want to know that if I pin the throttle that I can hit an indicated 100+ relatively quickly....keep in mind, im 6'2" 250ish pounds....I plan on test riding one sooner than later but id love to hear from someone who has both a superbike and a 696 and what their take is on the smaller monster....

I own a 696 and an 848 and both are fantastic bikes. You can't go wrong with the 696 for zipping around town and spirited rides out in the country...or suburbs depending on where you live in NY. I did what you are planing with financing on both of my bikes. I had the cash but decided to put $3000 down and take the rest and continuing playing with it. I took 50% of my profits and paid the 848 off very quickly, made $24,000 on AAPL over a weekend and paid off the 696 and bought all the CF for my 848.

Hmmmm I just noticed your size and weight. I'm 6' but I only weight 190lbs and I find the 696 fits fine and gets up and goes but I'm not sure how you will find it being 60lbs heavier than me.

I hear ya man, the opportnity cost of not having money to invest is wayyyyy more than 3% a year.....I bought some april 20 SLV puts yesterday and sold them today for a 5 thousand dollar profit....almost pays for the bike, but fuck it, in 5 years I can turn 5k into 50 so why pay for it upfront when they want to give me the money for free....I appreciate the input and look forward to test riding one

Are you trading in the 848 or keeping it?? I don't think you will be happy replacing the 848 with the 696 and highly sudgest keeping both. The 696 really doesn't have the sheer power the 848 does but it's still quite fun none the less.

After riding AAPL down Sept of 2008 for fantastic profits with Puts till it reached $135 then shorting till it hit $90, I turned around and bought LEAPS on it when it bottomed around $88 and have been riding back up again. They expect it to top around $225 soon so I'll be taking my money off the table then.

im definitely keeping the 848....thats my baby....I also have a 2010 bright pink vespa LX150 that I bought for my ex and have since been riding to work on every day and loving it...I was going to go with the hyper, but 2.99% on a left over already cheap as shit 696 is just insane....If i do this im going to put 2 grand down....and like I said....go out one less time per month and bam....bikes paid for....no reason id ever pay it off early with interest rates that low....AAPL is one of those that ive let slip away....along with google....goldman....b of a....MS.....everything that hit rock bottom except for citigroup which dont get me wrong, loved riding from a buck and change to over 4......but i look back on 2009 which was just incredible for my PA and imagine what i could have turned a few million into and it makes me cry....I wish I wasnt 24....its a lot easier to turn a million into 10 than it is to turn 10 grand into a million

Go try out that 696 and see whatcha think.

I taped GOOG from it's low of 2something and got back out when it topped over $500. It was alot of money to be tying up but it ended up well worth it.

I went to cash on most of my investments from last year right after the new year and while its been a bitch watching this market fly from the sidelines (other than buying calls and puts in size where I see support and resistance), when we get a correction, which we definitely will, im going to be so liquid and so ready to pounce it makes me wet just thinking about it haha....goog is definitely a lot of money to tie up but I said that every month from IPO until it hit like 600.....id snatch up every bit I could at 300 even....

Definitely going to give the 696 a try...hoping I like it....I could use something between my vespa and 848

I'll swap you my 696 for the 848?

Is the 1-2hrs highway or traffic? If highway, nakeds can get a bit much after a while because you get knocked around so much. If not highway and you live in a hot climate, the air cooled engine gets a lil warm.

I've learned to put up with the hot legs and being knocked around on the highway because I look shit hot while doing it. It's all about the image !!!

You need to ride one. Taller peeps tend to crush their valuables more that short arses on the 696. Try braking semi heavy and you'll feel what I mean. Apparently this can be fixed with the touring/gel seat.

thanks for the input man....as far as the hot legs....I was thinking about this puppy

but yea, I definitely need to try before I buy at my size....the 1-2 hours is highwayish....not like turnpike or freeway....pretty twisty....I know ill get knocked around a bit at high speed being naked and all but hopefully I can handle it at my size ha

Granted that I have an 848 and its IMO one of the best track bikes god has given us, but how is the 696 on the track???....I must say, it looks pretty flickable, and just looking at parts on ebay, its a hell of a lot cheaper to fix if you go down than a skinless 848
