Thinking about buying a 2003 Jeep Liberty but has quite a few miles?

I am desperate for a car!!!! I keep passing this Jeep Liberty that is for sale in front of this house so I finally stopped to get the details. The inside and outside look very new! Its a 2003 Jeep Liberty Automatic 4 Cylinder. I guess the only bad thing is it has 127,000 miles on it. They are asking 5200 but they are willing to go lower. I was thinking of asking for 4200 or 4000. However, my stepdad says its a bad buy because of the high miles and the 4 cylinder thing. I need a car though and this one looks really nice and I know sometimes cars last longer than others. I have a lot of other people saying don't get any jeeps because jeeps are a bad car maker. I really need a car and this seems to be in my price range and its nice. I just would like to hear different opinions on the matter. Maybe they are right but, I still want to hear a few more opinions on it.

I would keep looking. There is nothing wrong with a 4 cylinder engine, but 127k miles is too many. You might get a few thousand miles on it, and then have to get major work done on it. I would check out the classified ads in the newspaper, craigslist, and your local auto trader paper (if your town has one).

Yes it has high miles but are they highway miles, you need to ask them how far they drive to work Etc, It almost has to be a lot on the highway. I would look around other sites on the web to find out what other Liberty`s are going for, try http://www.carsoup.com , http://www.autotrader.com .and http://www.edmunds.com
Jeeps are not a bad car maker, every car maker has some headaches, I can tell you many bad stories about Ford and other car brands.
Look around, Do some homework, Offer $4200 if you want, price the new ones, ouch. Go from there.
Good Luck. :-)

I say no way. The mileage is the true age of a car. Better to buy an older model with lower mileage than anything relatively recent with higher mileage.

If the car is still cheap after you factor in all the money you'll be paying mechanics, go for it.
