There's this shy guy I really like and want him to ask me to this dance, what to do?

I like this guy. Typical, right? He is my best friend's brother, so that kind of complicates things, but he's nice and sweet. The main problem is, he is really shy, especially when it comes to girls. We have a Fall Formal dance coming up, and I want him to ask me. I would ask him, but my parents said if I don't get asked I can't go. I really want to go and to go with him, what can I do???
 
How about telling him about what your parents said and then ask him to ask you? That way, assuming he goes for it, which he probably will because the pressure's off == and you won't technically be lying to your parents?
