there is a metal piece on the frame of my bike that hits the chain ring?

its screwed to the bike and i cant get behind the chainring to unscrew it also i dont have the tools to take off the cranks either, i dont know thats why im asking u thanks
 
Most pieces of metal are screwed onto the bike for a reason. If one piece is hitting the chain ring, then something is wrong. Depending on what it is, just removing the piece of metal might not be safe. Get an experienced cyclist to look at your bike and tell you what's going on. It's not hard to find experienced cyclists. They hang out in bike shops. You can easily recognize them. They're the ones drooling over the most expensive bikes in the place.

Try a hand held hacksaw blade and saw it off .
edit .. I agree screws are usually there for a reason but it's usually to attach something, if the thing is missing there is no need for the screw. Remove the screw and have an ex-girlfriend test ride it
