The X Files: I Want to Believe

david too said he wouldnt come back for a new series, i doubt it would come back, they seem content with the idea of doing several films but not returning to the tv show
 
Went to see this film, a mate works for Fox and got press screening tickets.

I've been an X-files fan for years. The next bit of my post is not a spoiler but,

I don't want to dishearten a lot of fans going to see this film. It is terrible, an insult to the X-files. Chris Carter has destroyed his own creation. Its a lazy arsed embarrassment. Even Geaorge Lucas had more respect for his own creation and that is saying something. I can't even begin to describe how bad it is

She explained the accent thing once during an interview. When she was a little kid her parents moved to London and she was brought up in Crouch End until the age of 17. She learnt to speak English in England, so basically had a strong English accent. When she moved back to the states her English accent faded over time and she picked up her native American. However, every time she comes back to England she falls into an English accent, she can't explain it, it just happens.

its the same for me. I was born in England, moved to Scotland from the age of 5, came back to England at 12 with a strong Scottish accent. I lost it in about a year, but everytime I go back to Scotland my accent changes to a Scottish one almost instantly. And i'm now 36.
 
Well, I was fairly satisfied with this movie; I'm a big fan of the X Files - in whatever shape it came....Mulder, Scully, Dogget and Reyes....whatever.

I felt that the way that Scully and Mulder's 'situation' at the beginning of the movie was played and thought out was well done. I don't think it held up that well throughout the movie though. Although, I was happy with the end result re. Scully and Mulder.

I found the subject matter disturbing...(in all areas) and for that reason, won't be going to see the film again. I also found myself pseudo shivering watching all the winter wonderland stuff.

As for the acting.....Gillian Anderson won the prize for me. Billy Connolly was so wooden he needed a varnish (and I like BC) and I thought that Mulder's character was very under worked in this movie. David Duchovny's acting wasn't great...but then, they didn't give him much to work with.

However, I still liked the movie and was delighted to see the duo together on screen. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy. :)

I am left wanting more; I hope we get it. :cool:
 
It was complete rubbish. My mate forced me to go along as i wanted to go and see the Dark knight and he is a huge X Files fan and welll i should never of given up on seeing the Dark Knight,. Also walking out of the cinema you had mindless idiots going on about Mulder and Scully and if they had been living together in the film. Go to a Rom-Com if you care about romance.
 
I've always thought Gillian is the better actor. David's performances as the show went on seemed a bit lacklustre at times. Gillian always seems to put her heart and soul into everything.

As for the movie, it can't be that bad surely! I'll be gutted if it is. Surely they couldn't mess it up after such a long wait to come up with a story. If it is disappointing then it'll be a big missed opportunity.
 
It was good to catch up with Mulder and Scully, but...... to me it seemed like this was just some script Chris Carter had knocking about and added X-Files style parts to make it into a movie.
It was good, even Mr Connerly, but with some elements that just seemed to be filler rather than plot.
 
With regret, i have to say i agree with the majority on this one. The X-Files: I Want To Believe was pretty much disappointing. As an X-Files fan back in the day i was looking forward to this. I didn't even mind that it was a standalone movie with no emphasis on the whole alien conspiracy, that didn't bother me. I just wanted a good old hardcore X-Files story and to be brutally honest what i got was sh*t.

All this time to create a fantastic script, great story, brilliant dialogue just done down the gurgler! So fcuking disappointing!

It was great to have Mulder and Scully back, they rock! But for the majority of the film they were hardly even together!
Scully was away in the hospital, Mulder was doing the real investigating, Skinner turns up for 5 mins and we had to put up with Billy Connoly as this psychic paedophile...it was awful.

The scene at the end of the credits was just ridiculous! Made no sense whatsoever.

The biggest mistake they made was releasing this in the Summer. This isn't a summer movie and it would have made more practical (and financial) sense to release the film in Autumn/Xmas period instead.

A wasted opportunity and the dud of the summer :(

(Saw this in my local Cineworld. I kid you not, it was full of over 50's and OAPs! 80% of the audience were them and the rest were us young 'uns!)

There are conspiracy theories that equate the presence of black military helicopters seen flying around the US to a warning sign of a totalitarian military takeover. So Mulder and Scully are mean't to be acknowledging their presence.

In which case, this is completely in keeping with X Files.

I've heard so many people who haven't got a clue what the ending scene is about, the thing is, if you watched the series, you should know that something that looks frivolous rarely is.
 
Wasn't sure what to make of the film. Being a huge X Files fan, I loved seeing Mulder and Scully back together-that in itself is enough to make me not completely dislike it. Loved the little references that will make sense to the series watchers. But I will admit, I was a little disappointed.

I just saw the movie and thought it was good - it was like one of the episodes but seeing as i was young when it ended didn't see every episode but i got the noRAB to the series. I really liked Scully in it - i liked Mulder when he had the beard.
I think some people may have wanted more aliens and agree with one of the other posters when they said it was never going to be a summer Blockbuster but it is still a very good film!
