The X Files: I Want to Believe

Can anyone tell me why the X Files movie cost $30 million to make?

OK, there were a lot of extras and I'm sure Billy Connelly doesn't come cheap (!?!?!), but there were many special effects and it was equivalent to two TV episodes in length.
 
Saw this film last night, and quite disappointed.
It was good, but really didn't live up to 'The X Files'

I was expecting a real paranormal theme - instead we had a psychic paedophile priest.

It's a shame as they managed to get 3 main cast members back together to make an X Files film - only to blow it and probably blow any chances of ever making another (especially with the reviews the films has had so far)

Very disappointed - I wanted something spectacular! Gutted.

Good storyline though - just shouldn't be an X Files film!

That sounRAB promising. I actually didn't want the movie to be a big blockbuster in the first place because I like it when The X Files is more subtle. Here's hoping.
 
Spot on. The people who watched the X Files during its most sucessful phase (early to late 90s) are now grown up, and although many of them (like me) will shell out to watch it, a whole generation of kiRAB (i.e. those under 15/16) have never watched the series. Hence they probably won't pay to watch the movie.

What they may need to do is perhaps do a few more one-oRAB based around the conspiracy arc for younger viewers.. and let's face it - the ending back in 2002 never seemed like a satisfying ending.
 
It seems pretty certain that if they do another movie that'll it return to the conspiracy arc and be about the 2012 date that is supposed to be the date aliens colonise the earth. I'm thinking that'd need a slightly bigger budget..
 
Well it took $10.2 million in the usa over last weekend which is pretty bad even if fox are claiming the figure is OK as it only cost $30M.

The first X Files movie took $30.1M on it's opening weekend (and tickets were cheaper in 1998). I'm just not sure theres much interest anymore.
 
Thought it was complete rubbish and the only reason for that was the plot. Dull, boring, with only a tenuous paranormal link. And whenever a religious theme is thrown in, I just lose all interest.

The Scully and the little boy story was definitely filler material, time that could have been better spent inside a better story by involving more 'X-Files people'.

Feel terrible that I took someone along to this. However, Gillian Anderson looked fantastic, more so than in the lasty few years of the series.
 
Of course there will be less interest now than then. There will be a lot of younger cinema-goers who have never watched the series and therefore are less likely to see the film. Others are probably put off my the last 2/3 seasons that were a bit lacklustre. I personally will go to see it as I was a fan back in the 90's and don't really care about most critic reviews as it is my opinion that matters.

Box office figures do not indicate the quality of a movie. Plenty of standard fodder blockbuster make big takings, but are just a pile of crap. Unfortunately, a lot of people enjoy piles of crap :) ooh...explosions...cgi...wow!!! lol
 
Gillian has commented on this 'accent' change before. One interviewer asked her, when she was over here, why she sounded English. She said that because she spent her early life here, English was the first accent she picked up and so she automatically switches to it when talking the English. But back in LA surrounded by Americans, her home accent kicks in.
 
I'm a bit conflicted about this.

On the one hand, I can understand why people were disappointed that after 6 years this story was seemingly the best they could come up with. Had it been a two-parter in the TV series, I don't think it would have stood out (as a story - production values is another matter).

On the other, I enjoyed it. All the criticisms that applied to the TV series are relevant but still I felt the X-Files 'magic'. :cool:
 
Instead of making endless movies come back and do another series like continue where they left off people would tune in and it be great.
 
I highly doubt Gillian Anderson would do another series, I think she's happy to do the films since they take up a smaller amount of time filming in comparison with a series. A series would take them both away from other projects, family etc.

I would love another film about the conspiracy. I am hoping that the renewed interest in The X-Files will be enough to spur on another film. I've read so many posts on various forums about people digging their old dvRAB out or buying new ones. Surely dvd sales have had a boost?
 
I am now one very disappointed X Files fan :(

Below average is complimenting it to be honest. It's lovely to see Mulder and Scully on the screen again, but it doesn't feel right, the story is dire, direction poor and the trailers are the best thing about it.

I want a return to the conspiracy arc and 2012, I was hoping this would be it, but obviously not.

I wouldn't waste your money going to see it, wait for it to come out on dvd and then borrow it, it's that bad.
