The X Files: I Want to Believe

I thought the film was good but was dissapointed that the movie didn't carry on from the 1st movie(Alien element) as thats what the underlaying storey of the x-files from all seasons to the 1st movie is all about.
Maybe they will do one more movie(with the Alien element) to conclude all the series and the 1st movie to a great ending to this series.

As i said i thought it was good but it just wasn't the x-files I and most of us remember

I can't quite believe it can be that bad either. I mean, Chris Carter used to churn out top notch episodes. Duane Barry, Ascension, Nisei, 731, Piper Maru, Apocrypha, all the season finales and premieres, all great suspenseful episodes. That doesn't sound like what we're getting from the movie going off the reviews.

Having said that, he did write and direct episodes like Fight Club towarRAB the end of the show's run and I've no idea what was going on in his head with that one. Maybe he's run out of ideas. Will reserve judgement anyway.

When I first saw the trailer with Billy Connelly, and then the rapper xzibit, I thought it was a trailer for a crappy spoof comedy film! Now Pamela Anderson is saying she was nearly cast as Scully?!!!

VERY strange casting. I don't even know if strange is the right word for it to be honest! I don't hold high hopes for this film, but I'll reserve judgment for now.

Ginger Nut:

Anderson IS American, has nout to do with Canada. She was born in the US in 1968, and moved to London aged 2 and spent nine years here before going back (1970-79).

I seem to remember Alan Davies on QI stating she was English.

JCR:

EVERY film is suffering because of the Dark Knight. Given that, $10.2m is decent, if not great.

The budget for this film is 'only' $30m, and the film will be a big hit here and in Europe and will be a hit worldwide, imo it will easily make it its budget and then some...

Probably imo $20m in the US & Canada, $10-20m in Europe, and same again in worldwide sales.

I can see a return of $50m at least.

The american accent is the put on one. She's either Canadian but lived most of her life in England, or in fact English.

I know I was surprised when I heard her in an interview and discovered that. only having ever seen her in X Files I assumed she was american - as you would.

There's much more to The X-Files than aliens. We got a big blockbuster X-Files movie last time and to be honest I thought it went too far. The ending was ridiculous with Mulder entering the UFO etc. The X-Files is better when it leaves things to the imagination. I'm looking forward to this.

I'm only a moderate X-files fan, but I quite enjoyed this film.

I cannot understand anyone criticising Billy Connolly (especially without even seeing the film). His performance was excellent.

I certainly hope so. Can't remember the last time I was actually blown away by a movie. As I get older I find movies more and more disappointing generally.

Personally I really enjoyed the film as did my Mum (massive X files fan) who's going to watch it again I think! I really loved the little scene on the boat too :D!!! I just thought it was great to see Mulder and Scully again, really a great storyline would have been a bonus, but it was an ok, if not great plot.

I agree. I promised my mate who is a mahoosive x-files fan that I'd go see it with her so we had a cinema day on sat. I picked Dark Knight, we went for lunch then went to X-Files.
I actually really enjoyed it but she was massively disappointed. She said the only thing that kept her watching was Mulder!
I also thought Billy Connolly was good but
thought his death was a bit crowbarred in.

I was lucky enough to be at the UK premiere of X Files last night, and as a hardcore fan, I'm happy to say that I left feeling completely satisfied with the movie. First of all however, I do think that Fox have pitched this movie COMPLETELY wrong. It is definitely not a summer blockbuster, and I don't ever think that was the intention so why release it in the height of summer and up against some of the year's Biggest films. Also because of the film's setting (a very snowy Virginia) and tone, this would have been a great movie to release in the winter months, where I feel it would have fared a lot better.

The movie itself, is just like an episode of the show and is really one for the fans. Your average "go to the summer for the big popcorn movie" cinemagoer probably won't be that interested, But that's not a bad thing. I Want to Believe IS small scale, there is no impressive CGI, no big OTT action sequences, but the X Files was never always about that anyway. It is a dark thriller and it does hark back to the olden days of the show. It's also a relationship movie and there is lots of dialogue between mulder and scully about faith and belief (hence the film's title i guess!!) There are lots of visual noRAB and references to the series that will keep the fans happy and acknowledged.

the post credits scene is funny but just plain weird!! you won't have seen anything like it on the x files before!!! bizarre!

But leave your preconceptions at the door, ignore the harsh movie critics (and there have been a lot for this movie) and just go and enjoy it. If you're a fan, i think you'll just be happy to have Mulder and Scully back again.

I've always been an X-Files fan from back in the day and love Mulder and Scully and i'm so disappointed with what i've been hearing about this film - basically it's a dud! :(

I've been looking forward to the film but it seems it's just not very good and laying the blame on the story and that it comes across as a below-average episode of the series and nothing particulary special. I'm so disappointed! I wanted this to be SO good! I'll watch it and make my own mind up but still..

I don't understand why they couldn't have got some half-decent actors to play alongside Duchovny and Anderson. Billy Connoly and Xhibit - puh-leeeeze!
