THE X FILES - I WANT TO BELIEVE is a feature length film version of the popular cult US TV import that dealt in story-lines of unexplained phenomena, alien abduction and the supernatural. The film was classified '15' for some strong violence, grisly and horrific scenes and for the inclusion of dark and disturbing themes that were judged too strong for the lower categories.
The film includes sight of a dismembered arm, decapitated heaRAB and a man bleeding from his eyes. There are also some scenes of medical style horror as women are drained for their blood for use in a terminally ill man. The scenes mentioned and themes of women being forcibly abducted for use in medical experimentation, along with references to paedophillia and child abuse were deemed to be too dark and potentially upsetting for junior audiences. However, BBFC Guidelines at '15' do not preclude any themes and allow for all but the strongest of gory images. There is nothing in the treatment of the themes or the detail described that suggested this work should be restricted to an adult audience.
