The Wrestler

Isn't this a Darren Aronofsky film? If so, I'm definitely going to watch it. Pi and Requiem For A Dream are two of the greatest films of all time, I reckon. I thought The Fountain was good too.

Rourke stole the show in Sin City too.

Personally i thought the film was pants, although i am not really a big wrestling fan anyway, slumdog is a good film to see, i am waiting for my bloody valentine and the new star trek film to be released

Good call. It looks like it's about a fall from grace and a hard life. Plus with a director like Aronofsky, it should be rather stylised.

Bear in mind the poster is actually excited about My Bloody Valentine ;) Some of us are old enough to remember rubbish like Jaws and Amityville in 3D.
It's like 1983 never happened.
Shudder.
Anyhow, at heart The Wrestler is more of a tragic drama about someone unable to function doing anything other than what they know even when it threatens their life.
It's a great film but maybe you have to be of a certain age to get it.

It has a lot in common with Rocky Balboa, only it doesn't have the baggage of Rocky IV and V (the really silly ones) dragging down its attempts to be serious.

Great to see Mickey Rourke get the Golden Globe for best actor for this. Now... will the Academy forgive him his past sins and give him the Oscar? That would be a helluva a career comeback.

Right. It makes quite a difference, I guess. It probably affects his vision for the overall piece, if he has to contend with another person's vision and expectations.

A really enjoyable film. Obviously i had higher expectations because of all the positive reviews and the film did not disappoint.

Mickey Rourke deserves the Oscar for best actor but will the academy award him? I hope they do! Also Marisa Tomei was very good.

I just think those three films shows that his great talent is primarilty in film writing rather than directing. For me the story is always more important than the direction.

I love David Lynch but Dune was shite and he didn't write that either :p

Ideally, it would be best for the same person to do both, I guess. At least that way, one can't blame the other if no one likes it.
