The Worlds Strictest Parents

In the initial run on BBC3, there was a follow-up episode at the end of the series that returned to most (but not all) of the teenagers involved.

I guess that it will be shown again at the end of this repeated BBC1 run...

He was insufferable, wasn't he? Jocelyn wasn't quite so bad; at least she didn't storm off when they were asked to do charity work.

The real annoyance is that the Indian school pupils were being sold the idea that these kids were typical of youngsters in the UK. I don't deny there's others like them, but really, they aren't typical.

I think of myself as fairly laid-back and liberal, so I was surprised to find myself agreeing with the parents' point of view all the way through. But then I realsied that the title of the programme is not accurate - they are not the world's strictest parents; they are just reasonably strict, and more strict than what Jocelyn and Peter are used to. Jocelyn was a stroppy rebel but Peter was basically just lazy and a bit unmotivated and rather sweet underneath. It was funny when Jocelyn agreed to put on the school uniform in order to go to school - just to get away from the boredom of being at home.

I just saw a trailer for this show, and it shows a girl sneaking out of her bedroom window from within her bedroom, and then it cuts seamlessly to her still climbing out but this time from outside of the window. So are we meant to think 2 camera crews are there, one in the house, and one outside (ready by the window) waiting for her to sneak out without anyone noticing ?

It reminds me of the Hulk Hogan reality show where Hogan pays for hidden car tracking to make sure her daughter is okay on a date, but a film crew is with her all the way. And another time where she answers the door to Hogan and is shocked to find it is him, but the film crew is inside her house filming her doing nothing when the door suddenly rings.

Why can't reality TV ever be real ?
