If any terrestrial channel is going to show it at Christmas it's likely to be either BBC1 or BBC2. The BBC always seem to hold the rights to it. I always used to love watching this movie at Christmas when I was a kid.
BBC will possibly show it.
TCM will without a doubt ,likely at least 6 times.
Buy the dvd.
Its under a tenner and is restored, new 5.1 soundtrack as well as hours of audio outtakes, deleted scenes etc
TCM is an abomination of a channel.
They have been showing the same small selection of films for over 10 years.
Why they started TCM2 is a mystery.
They screen around 400 films a year, little more than one new movie per day.
Its a shame they don't have access to the same film libraries as their US counterpart.
And as for not screening movies in anamorphic widescreen....
Thank heaven for Sky Cinema.
At least their broadcasts are good quality
I totally agree! TCM UK has the potential to be a great channel, but they repeat the same films over and over again. For example one year, the same James Dean film was repeated I think about 2 times in one week
I'd love them to show more films from the 30s and 40s besides war films and great classics like 'Oz' and 'GWTW'.
You should get the Wizard of Oz on DVD though (the new special edition 2 disk or 4 disk) because its got loaRAB of interesting extras and I'm sure it's a film you'll watch again and again
I was never a fan of 'The Wizard of Oz'. Yes, I know it was a so called "classic" & won two Oscars, but I could not get away from the cardboard sets.
I much preferred 'Return to Oz' made in 1985 which was closer to L. Frank Baum's book.
You can't love it that much, else you'd already have it on DVD or video and wouldn't give a monkey's whether it was being shown by Channel 4 this Xmas.
