The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Blu Ray and DVD set

This sounRAB incredible! One of the real ultimate Blu-ray sets that we should see appearing from now on. I don't own The Wizard of Oz in any shape or form so I might indeed pick this up. Though it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the extras for the UK release were different, especially the book.

Its being released by Warner Bros so its garunteed that the blu ray set will be region free. Warners are also planning a similar Gone With The Wind set but no extras have surfaced yet.

I like the idea of owning a limited numbered watch with genuine crystals. A nice collectable.

So if you wanted this title on Bluray you'd have to buy the full packaged edition.
Nice for collectors perhaps. Not so good for the casual buyer. They did the same thing with Casablanca.

I dont know yet there is apparantly another press release going round saying that total releases will be.

1 Disc DVD
2 Disc DVD
4 Disc DVD
4 Disc Anniversary Set
1 Disc blu ray
2 Disc blu ray.
2 Disc Anniversary blu ray set.

But as far as im aware thats not been confirmed at all.

Warner have yet to release any of their Bluray boxsets in the UK.

Harry Potter 1-5 was released a couple of years ago in the US
The Dirty Harry boxset is still not available
The 5 disc Blade Runner set was on dvd only in the UK.
The Forbidden Planet dvd tinset has never come out.

And none of the boxsets were just the films all in one box - there were additional bits and bobs

I dont expect this luxury Bluray set will appear here either especially if the book is substantial.

Fox are the same.
The 200 page hardcover book included with the US Planet of the Apes Bluray set was missed out in the UK

Glad I'm multiregion even though Warner are region free anyway

I expect we will get a standard 2 disc Bluray release without all the additional paraphernalia although they dont seem to mind dvd boxsets.

Economics I guess .

If they dont expect to sell Harry Potter or Dirty Harry in enough quanitity I doubt Oz will be any different

Warner do not use region coding because it allows them to press discs for the entire world as cheaply as possible.

Only the labels and packaging is changed.
Thats why UK Warner discs open with the FBI warning.

I would say that the extra cost for the fancy packaging these boxsets need is too much for them

Plus with the conversion the way it is, its not that expensive at $80 is it? Considering what your getting for your money. Quite a few companies release films region free. It is very cost effective and a lot of companies are trying to go region free but the problem with a lot of films, especially recent ones is that many different companies own the rights to them all over the world.
