The windows media player says there's no device when there is! Help!?

On the sync part of window media player it says to hook up a device( mp3, ipod, zune, etc.) when i already have my mp3 plugged in, the screen on my mp2 says that its connected, and the computer says the device is connected but window media player doesnt. Whats wrong with it? Can anyone help?
