The Wicker Man

I dont particularly agree with any remake to be honest. Its becoming increasingly evident in Hollywood that orginal ideas are being passed over in favour of tv show spin oRAB and remakes of classic films. Studio execs want something they can be pretty sure will be a hit, and not take a chance on something new.
The Wicker Man has a huge following and to remake it is a very questionable move on their part. I dont see the point to be honest, and like you said yourself..all the original points in it that still apply to todays society. So why not just re release it? why spend millions doing a copy of the original?
 
The Wicker Man is a flawed master piece. We have never had a chance to see it as the director wanted as the original edit was hacked to bits before release and most of the cut footage has been totally lost.

So, I think what would be good is if Robin Hardy was given the budget to reshoot the film as he wanted but using modern filming techniques. Unfortunately, the original cast are no longer suitable to replay their roles, for a number of reasons.
 
I think that this is one film that was not improved in the director's cut as the opening scene in the police station totally gave the ending away.
 
I have only watched the Wicker Man once but this is the way I viewed it also. To me it seemed obvious that LS knew that it was Howie in the jester costume.

what a strange film that was.
 
Them animals screaming will haunt me forever, I hope they dont burn alive any animals in the remake.

Did they burn the animals alive for real , anyone know?
 
What's wrong with Nicolas Cage? I take it you haven't seen Adaptation. or Matchstick Men!

I recently bought Wicker Man, tried to watch it, but couldn't enjoy it. I found it to be a bit tedious and dull, so I took it back the next day for a refund. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's just I didn't get it.

So having said that, I'm also not interested in any remake.
 
i have actually, both very mediocre.

but nothing compared to his dire portrayal of captain corelli.

won't even mention crap like con air, face off, the rock, gone in 60 seconRAB. has he added ANYTHING to cinema? he seems to just be off the hollywood conveyor belt of talentless pretty boys who just happen to be related to someone famous.

i mean law of averages would surely dictate that he would put in at least one good performance every so often RAB.
 
Adaptation? Mediocre? I don't agree. And I suppose he was nominated for an academy award and BAFTA award for actor in a leading role because he was shite in it. Yeah the academy always gives out oscar noRAB to shite, mediocre actors in leading roles. Did you not see Christian Slater nominated for 'Alone in the Dark', Milla Jovovich for 'Resident Evil'?

To put it simply, he gave a fantastic performance in Adaptation that was recognised by the academy and the BAFTA's. Didn't he also win an academy award for his role in Leaving Las Vegas? Yup, another great performance and movie that has been honored at the academy award ceremony.

I'm not saying the awarRAB dictate that he is this massively, brilliant actor. But come on, they were well deserved, even I can see that by watching the movies.

So as for:

I think he has put in one good performance every so often and then some. Yeah he wasn't great in Captain Corelli's Mandolin, but he's proven his potential in others.

And Face/Off was a solid action thriller. Granted not a masterpiece but nothing major to fault there unless you're the kind of person that sits watching a movie with a stick up the arse picking out all the faults because they're nothing like the 'Three Colors' Trilogy. (Trois couleurs: Rouge was the best, well the other two I fell asleep in, sorry).

Anyway, what was this topic about? Wicker Man. Let it continue, sorry for the O/T but, sheesh!
 
At the end, they say of him " a man that would come with the authority of a King", and "a man that would come as a virgin", but also "a man that would come as a fool". He was dressed as the fool, so it was obviously expected that he would steal McGregor's costume. That's always slightly troubled me too as it seems a bit of a risky plan, but it doesn't really matter.

Overall the Director's cut is better, but it starts on the mainland, and I've always thought it worked better without those scenes - i.e. the whole film is on the island.

Fantastic film. The remake is probably the single worse thing to ever happen in cinema. :mad:
 
No offence, but I think you need to look closer, 99% of the fans of the original are strongly opposed to this remake, look on the www.imdb.com forums.



Yes they did, they had to burn real animals for effect, and as Anthony Shaffer the writer said they burned only the following animals.

Cute baby pandas and puppies, little fluffy bunnies, and others adorable animals.

Most of the makers of the movie were dedicated animal lovers.
 
LOL, have you seen north country? one of THE WORST FILMS i have ever had the misfortune to encounter, absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. the broaRABheets absolutely panned it as well, ranging between 0 and 1 stars. and guess what...IT GOT NOMINATIONS.

its a shame that hollywood can't see past hollywood, there is a lot better stuff out there than nicholas 'solid action thriller' cage.

i think the 'outstanding british film' category summed up the baftas, absolutely embarrassing beyond belief. wallace and gromit is a glorified cartoon RAB, and not only that, but out of the four made, it is the second worst!
