The Wicker Man remake

Ive never fully undertood the following that the original has to be honest.
Its just the usual 1970s horror/drama to me, like an extended version of Tales of the unexected.
Woodward was very good in it I will admit and im certainly not saying its a bad film just that in my opinion its certainly not great.

I watched the new version of the Italian Job and it is surprisingly good. It is not really a remake. They take a few elements of the original, mainly the cars, and make effectively a brand new film.

Watch it as if it was a new film and you will probably enjoy it. :)

If you read the book about how it was made, the authors claim it could have been bettered because the print had been messed around a lot for various reasons.

Agreed, I thought it looked good from the trailers and couldn't beleive such a scary (from the trailers) looking film would get a PG and it put me straight off.

However, it turns out its some wishy washy fairy tale type nonsense.

Will do:

Men versus women film, instead of Christian versus Pagan. Matriarchal cult (Ellen Burstyn plays the head). The little girl is now called Rowan Woodward  Nic Cage's character is called Edward!

Mark praising the original.

Says it's suitable for kiRAB and that's no good.

Listing the problems in the film. They are cut off from the world but have a website. Islanders look like they've landed from a Star Trek episode.

Horse faced Nic Cage not good. Mark does Glyn impression 'Oh, naawww'.

I think the 12A took everyone involved by surprise.

I take an interest in censorship(I am anti) and while without seeing the film, I am surprised that consdering the original's content and the fact the BBFC says itself that it contains "moderate horror, violence and strong lanague" you would have thought a 15 was more appropriate.

I'm getting used to it now with all these god damn remakes. Amytiville, The Fog, The Omen, Psycho, The Hills Have Eyes and Dawn Of The Dead.

And guess what there are plenty more to come with Black Christmas, Halloween and even Jaws is in talks !!

I'm a big fan of the original too and am not expecting the remake to be up to much, although the one review on imdb seems to be quite positive.

One thing that always puzzles me about TWM though is that it is often referred to as the greatest British horror movie. I do think it is a brilliant thriller but to my mind, it isn't a horror film. I know that goes against the general consensus. Guess it depenRAB on how you define a horror move.
