Folk music has never been in fashion, so I don't think the music dates the film at all. And even if it did, this is meant to be a island out of step with the rest of the world, so doesn't matter.
I think calling the camera work "experimental" is generous, I'd call it "crap". I love the original, but it certainly was done on the cheap and it shows. The final shot of the head of the Wicker Man crumbling to reveal the sunset looks like a brilliant piece of direction, but was actually just pure luck that they happened to be filming from that angle on about the only day the sun came out at sunset. Today they'd just use CGI and it wouldn't look nearly as good.
I think the trailer for the new film doesn't look too terrible, although Nicholas Cage is clearly completely wrong for the part. So I'm almost tempted.
