The Wicker Man remake

Even if he doesn't, I can guarantee you that if the film's a 12A in the UK, the ending ain't half as disturbing as the original.

Just... no. This movie has not been made. They would not do this to a movie voted the greatest British horror of all time. A film in which the whole plot revolves around an ancient British culture. Nope. Not happening. Lalalalalalala... Not listening.

If ever there was a film that didn't need to be remade by hollywood its the Wicker Man.

The only acceptable response would be a complete boycott by all film lovers in this country. I know its gonna be tempting to go and see it just to have your worst fears confirmed, but if we all genuinely commited to inore the film maybe it would show hollywood that we won't accept having our cinematic history vulgarised, blandified and repackages and sold back to us!

Folk music has never been in fashion, so I don't think the music dates the film at all. And even if it did, this is meant to be a island out of step with the rest of the world, so doesn't matter.

I think calling the camera work "experimental" is generous, I'd call it "crap". I love the original, but it certainly was done on the cheap and it shows. The final shot of the head of the Wicker Man crumbling to reveal the sunset looks like a brilliant piece of direction, but was actually just pure luck that they happened to be filming from that angle on about the only day the sun came out at sunset. Today they'd just use CGI and it wouldn't look nearly as good.

I think the trailer for the new film doesn't look too terrible, although Nicholas Cage is clearly completely wrong for the part. So I'm almost tempted.
 
The plan was to have the film rated as a 15 (the trailer we got at the cinema I work at was rated 15) and all advertising had 15(TBC) on it. Last week I got told the BBFC had lowered it to a 12A, presumerably so more people can watch the film and the distributor gets more money.
 
To cut a long story short..

The pagans burn the protagonist in the Wicker Man as a sacrifice

.. but it goes into this whole paganism v Christianity thing which works really well. It never fails to disturb me, that film ending.
