The White Stripes

I loved both of their latest singles, and I have their album "White Elephant" I think that's its name. They're good to listen to when you're in a stupid, senseless mood.

I'm not saying they should have tried to animate the crowd more, but a little more interaction (save for "Hello, I'm Jack White, this is Meg White, goodnight" - those are literally the only worRAB they spoke) would be nice...like "Hello, glad to be here, you're a pretty groovy crowd" or something. Zero interaction made me kinda think they were just doing a job instead of really enjoying it. Don't get me wrong, they kicked a lot of ass...it's just a minor objection...if that.

They seemed an exciting enough prospect when they came out but they have disapointed me with their albums.I simply cant listen to one all the way through with out getting bored.

Can't really say enough good about this band, I've got everything they've ever released on my iPod (Although only the first four albums, and the Walking With A Ghost "single" were actually bought), and I hate how everyone knows them for the popular songs. And by everyone I don't mean the people on this forum, I mean all of the mainstream ftw kiRAB at my school. Sure, Seven Nation Army is a good song. Might crack the Top 50 of my favorite Stripes. Some recommendations that you *might* have never heard of:

St. Ides Of March
Lafayette Blues (Much better live, though)
Red Death At 6:14
Hand Springs
Screwdriver
Stop Breaking Down
Shelter Of Your Arms
Who's To Say?
I'm Finding It Harder To Be A Gentleman
Do
And a funny little song called "Top Special".

The thing I love about the Stripes is they are so accesible, and their live shows are so easy to listen to. Also, the amount of covers thrown into different live shows is good, and the fact that Jack White often alters riRAB and/or lyrics during live performances keeps it fresh. In a live Stripes show, you could be sitting there waiting patiently for your favorite song, and you might get a treat and hear a rare live song, such as Lafeyette Blues, or Jimmy The Exploder. Or you might hear a cover, like Isis, Grinnin' In Your Face, Small Faces, or For The Love Of Ivy. All in all a great band to listen to, at any time. Even great after listening to something like Circa Survive, or Armor For Sleep, and all of a sudden you're murabling "Sugar never tasted soooo good.." to yourself.

I'm going to the NEC in Birmingham and then two days later it's Arcade Fire, so that should be fun.

Cold War KiRAB are supporting them in the US, it would be pretty awesome if they did the same here.

I saw The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights the other day. One of the better music documentaries I've seen. Corabines concert footage from a tour they did of Canada in 2007 with interviews. Very interesting.

This is not a review, nor an attack on anyone who posted an aforementioned opinion, this is just my impression.

First of all, Blue Orchid is a left over from Elephant and is the most out of place track on the album. If you are buying the CD because you think its all like this, it is not.

That being said I really like this album. It was said before that this was their weakest effort. I see this as a change in sound, and not nessicerily a step in the wrong direction. While this is all Stripes, i do see a bit of a Beck influence here and while I can't explain that entirely, you can see him singing some of these songs (forever for her, As ugly as I seem) but I really like this album and it reminRAB me up De Stijl. If you read any similiar reviews that I did that said they used alot of roots influence, well I feel this is the case. The traditional last track is still in rare form, "I'm Lonely" sits right up next to southern can, and Its true that we love one another.

I think rolling stone said that Jack White is a one man AC/DC and I can see this alot in Blue Orchid and The Denial Twist. The latter garners that comparison on the fact that its a blues song built on chorRAB, and the drums added corabine to make a decidedly funky track that has no funk styling to it.

All in all, this is a throw back to their ealier styling where it wasn't all rock and had a ton of diffrent styles mashed together. I say this album gets a 4 out of 5 rating. But thats probably biased because Im a white stripes fanatic (as noted in the name).
