The White Stripes

Icky Thump seems to be one of their weaker albums.
Then again thats not saying much, they're one of the most consistant banRAB around.
Little Cream Soda, Rag And Bone and Effect And Cause are my top picks.
I am undecided wether i like St. Andrew yet.

Maybe I am wrong but don`t you think it`s a coincidence that 2 people who are known for liking metal come into this thread & start saying how sh*t the White Stripes are.

I`d love to explain 'what the feeling behind stolen riRAB and purposefully simplistic structures for the sake of being musically accessible is.'
That to me is what roots music about. The White Stripes are a blues based band.If you listen to the best blues artists you`ll see that original riRAB & overcomplex melodies were not exactly the flavour of the day hence my follow up comment about it being the total opposite of what metal fans enjoy.

Perhaps you could explain to me the feeling behind 10 minute guitar solos & lyrics about valhalla & dragons?

I am truly shocked that people can call Thrice an incredible musical band and then have a go at Jack White's guitar playing. I'm at a loss for worRAB.

When Seven Nation Army was at it's top, everyone at school was singing it so I thought I'd buy the cd. Yeah, I liked some of the songs, those that are maybe a little harder but the soft songs were just boring and helped me fall asleep at night.
I never played drums, but I'm sure I could play better the drums than Meg can. She should take lessons to help the band, imo. Jack is alright, he can play guitar, but surely isn't the greatest, seeing as my friend can play his stuff even better. The simplicity of their music is alright, but I guess it can be boring. Those that say they don't have a bassist, that's true, but I heard that when they recorded their albums, they did use more instruments than those used during concerts, like the bass. They said it was harder playing live because they couldn't use other instruments and it can't sound as good. They have a second guitarist, I do believe, for some of the songs, but when they play live, it's only them two.
To all those that say they suck, have you gotten as far as they did? I think not..

I don't suppose you could say they weren't Bluesy or Folky or country-ish sometimes but it's not like they're really Rock 'n' Roll all the time either.

I'd still put them there though.

Vote 1
Rock 'n' Roll.

Aye...it's much better than Get behind me Satan. I'd even go so far as saying it's on par with Elephant. God I wanna see them live again so badly. They are the best rock band in the world right now. I just can't figure out how two people can make such monumental music...I mean, the amount of noise they produce is incredible...

You should seriously sell your kiRAB and go see them, I fell in love with them after seeing them live, so I'd imagine they'd blow your fucking mind.

Off topic, I'm a little pissed that most people here are willing to post pages and pages of bullshit on how The Beatles are better than The Rolling Stones, yet no one seems to bother commenting on fresh (and pretty fucking awesome) music. The same shit happened to the new QOTSA album, and it's happening again with Icky Thump...

Im hoping for something sweet and rootsy like "You've Got to Keep Her In Your Pocket" fromElephant. I don't think theyve plowed that furrow as much as they possibly should have.

Whatever Jack wants to do is fine with me though.:)

I actually do like the white stripes despite all of the hate they get on the forum. For me white blood cells takes the cake for there best album.

All I had to do was google...I could have even asked at Virgin, but I couldn't bring myself to talk to the Death Metal clones that always seem to inhabit these places.

Bill for bus fare on it's way Urban.

Bringing this sucker back from the dead...

I've been murdering my Elephant C.D these last few days. The whole lot is amazing. Especially In the Cold, Cold Night and I just don't know what to do with Myself. And ... ah who am I kidding the whole lot kicks arse. As soon as I've plateued with this cd I'll move onto Get Behind Me Satan.

I saw them on our music channel the other night doing a concert of all their stuff. Meg as simple as she is, is one hell of a performer. I'd call it mesmerizing to watch her bang away to Seven Nation Army among others.

As for Jack, he just owns...everything. I've heard people bag his vocals but they are top notch, in every song. Particularly Blue Orchid, I like the sound and the guitar kicks arse also. Also his vocals are wicked in You've Got Her In Your Pocket.

A truely remarkable duo.
